DawgTalk
This is gonna sound very very dumb, but does it alter your draft plans just a little. When drafting a first round pick you have to be almost certain that player wont get hurt. If that first round pick gets hurt, it really hurts the rest of your season and makes you a scrapler for wins. In 2005, McNabb was injured...In 2004, Lewis was injured...In 2003, Vick was injured...In 2002, Faulk was injured...In 2001, Culpepper was injured... all players on the front cover of Madden. By no means am I saying "Don't draft Alexander this year..." but you do have to admit, it may play a toll in the back of your mind when you are drafting in the top of round one... Im sure there are a few people that may not draft SA because of this superstition, but they may be helping that guy that picks right after them, or they may actually be playing their cards right and not have an injured first rounder by week 3... If I'm third and he's there I'm gonna take him and trade him. The CURSE is alive. And don't forget about the big contract curse. That one transcends sports. That one transcends sports. I don't exactly know about the curse.....but I would have traded SA regardless of the Madden cover this year.... 1. he just got his new contract 2. he lost Hutch 3. I never liked him anyways....he's lost his incentive since he just got paid......I'll gladly bolster my overall lineup by trading him.. cdj7k
yes, the contract curse is the one to be afraid of. but i think he will still put up very solid numbers. he likes being known as a TD machine. i think at the goalline he will be a force, just may not work as hard in the middle of the field. think edge. oh, wait a minute, he would usually pull himself out when they got to the 20, not in the middle of the field. Lewis was injured in 2004? I thought he broke the alleged curse. He was hurt in 2005. He missed one game in 2004, had 100 tackles, 46 assists, 1 sack, 5 PD. http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/3831 Edited July 11, 2006 by Randall
joethin
Yes but Lewis failed to notch any murder charges in 2004, hence the curse WAS in action
mbaker123
If I get the third pick in the draft I'm taking him and joking about how the Madden curse will probably ruin my season as I'm putting the sticker on the board..... Then when he gets hurt in October have everyone wonder why I'm throwing Madden 2007 against the wall when I get it for my birthday in November. And that Madden Curse is real. No way in HELL I would put my face on it. Well I guess if you got SA contract and age via RB wise. I guess I could do it. He'll get at least 3 yrs out the contract if he gets hurt. Which might have been all he would get anyway or maybe 4 yrs.
Seahawks21
Even if Shaun plays HORRIBLE, horrible for him would be 1300/12. They found their curse breaker.

No one has lucked up to get out of that part of the curse. Even though McNabb tried his best to break it himself by playing out the season with that injury. Avernus
http://forums.thehuddle.com/index.php?showtopic=156818 SA breaks the curse this season... I thought he was fools gold before being named as this years Madden cover..... the Madden cover just solidified it... he's only worth drafting if you want to trade him.... plus I can't remember the last time he's missed a game.....as a football player, he's due....but that's purely a cynical point of view... but I give all RB's a certain amount of lifespan before I become afraid....especially with the size of the average NFL player going up every couple of years..... Even though McNabb tried his best to break it himself by playing out the season with that injury. Eddie George didn't get hurt. He had his best season his cover year (403 carries/1509 yards and 14 TD's). The only "bad" thing they can find is his fumble in the play-offs that cost the Titans the game. He is the only player that did not miss at least one game in the season after being put on the cover. It was however, his last great season. Seahawks06
The curse does scare me, w/ Alexander however it doesn't. I don't say this because I'm a huge Seattle fan, but do so because Shaun loves the spotlight. He got his contract, and he has a lot of stuff going on in Seattle to keep the fans happy. To continue his rythm he will have to continue running strong, he won't flake out since he just got paid. I call another big season, Hutch was a big factor last/past years but that won't cause him to go down like so many are predicting. He will finish w/in the top 3 RBs this season. That's worth a 1st round pick any day on my team.

loyalboyd
I only factor in curses, superstition and jinxes for players after the 1st round. Why, Because usually 1st rounders are the biggest bust. Via NFL Draft and even Fantasy Football. Its one every year.

Over the past 5 years, the team that lost the Super Bowl went on to have a horrible year the next season. Take a look for yourself..... I wouldn't completely avoid SA but if I can get Johnson, Tomlinson, or even Portis instead, I would.
