My local league is trying something new this year to ensure commited owners for the next couple of years. Does anyone have any suggestions on Keeper League rules. I would love to hear how yours is run so I have a couple of different options to run by the guys. I always thought the concept of a keeper league was cool but we always stuck with a redraft..times are changing though. Thanks

There are many rules you can adopt.

More popular rules are must keep 3 or keep a max of 3. Options in that are 3 of any position or position limits, such as 1 max in any position.

For optional max, keeping a player may forfeit a pick from the top; or the pick drafted plus 1-3 rounds progressive each year (if it goes past the first round, he may no longer be kept).

You with your league would need to decide which way to take it.

there is also what is known as a dynasty league where you keep every player you draft. after the initial draft, player movement is made only by ww/fa, trades, and an annual rookie draft.

this is done by either using team d/st or individual defensive players.

We were a non-keeper for 10 years before last year. Teams have the option of keeping one player from their final roster. They pay the cost of the player from the auction plus $5. This comes off the top of their auction cap.

A player can only be kept for one season before going back into the auction pool.

It worked out pretty well and now we've tweaked it, allowing for teams to keep their rosters during the off season, make trades for auction dollars, etc.

+1

Our league is almost exactly as Big John writes...you HAVE to keep 3 players, but no more than 1 from any position (to ensure a good crop of players at each position are available via draft).

Also, our rules state you can only "keep" a player for three years. After that, they must be released. This rule created some very interesting strategies that we never imagined would happen. For instance, this year will be the final year one of our teams will have the ability to keep Alexander. I am sure he will get flooded with trade offers in mid-season, and rightly so, since if the guy who has him doesn't trade him, he will lose him with no compensation.

Last year, Portis and James were traded straight-up near the deadline, for this very reason.
