irish
DET - WR M. Williams Fined Over $400,000 In 2005 Source: Tom Kowalski, MLive According to a source close to the situation, WR Mike Williams was fined more than $400,000 last year for violating team rules, mostly for arriving late to meetings and being overweight. Williams was chronically late for morning meetings during training camp and was also out of shape. Apparently the fines didn't help. During the first mandatory three-day mini-camp this spring under new HC Rod Marinelli, Williams was sent home for the final two days after he was late for a meeting and a rehab session for his sore hamstring. Williams could have some difficulty making the Lions roster this season. At what point does this guy grow up, get his act together and act like a professional athlete should? You figure losing all this money would help him change his outlook. Would Marinelli really give him the boot (like Lynch suggested on NFL Network) if he continues to be uncooperative? As it is the Lions have 2 too many WR on their roster, so people will be released. Edited July 21, 2006 by irish

He seems to possess a lot of ability....lets see if he can survive this coaching staff...
piratesownninjas
I doubt they'll release him... With his fines, and the way his salary is set up, he plays for free the next two seasons... I think its great.

Wizards
Mike Wiliams may have seen his last days as a Lion. Mike Furrey came over/followed Martz from the Rams....Martz likes him, plus Furrey will work and knows Martz system. Corey Bradford and Roy williams are tyour 1 & 2. You have Eddie Drummond, great hands and a good return man...not going anywhere...so you have R. Williams, Bradford and Drummond definitely on the team...word from mini camp was Glenn Martinez worked really hard and looked really good...if it translates to the pads Mikey might have seen his last chance go doink! Charles Rogers has all the skills Martz needs to move him around as a 3....left for probably 2 spots is : Martinez (martz likes him) Furrey (you know Martz likes him) Scottie Vines (potential untapped at this point) Mike Williams.....hmmmm....If Rogers works and does what his potential is in camp....Martinez and Vines could push Williams out of the picture...there's no room for a late, careless attitude in the NFl and MArtz will forget Williams quick whether he's on the team or not if Williams doesn't come to work and flourish. irish
He should spend that 400K on drinking Maybe he already has a drinking problem to begin with and that's why he can't lose the weight and act like a normal adult and attend meetings. I'd say being hung over would probably keep him from missing a few meetings. I say keep fining his drunk a$$ if that's the case!
thecerwin
You'd think after missing a year of football he would have had time to grow up and realize what he had/has.

irish
Just another instance of the man trying to keep a brother down. Yeah okay. That's hysterical. Maybe you could talk some sense to that dumb brother and tell him that he has great physical talent and is making millions so stop acting like a jacka$$. Man up do what he's supposed to do and and make the $$! I tell ya the excuses we make for the dopes in society.

However, Williams will prolly just sit the pine for the season or until he gets out of the doghouse.
Vicster
Football is just a hobby for him till his acting career takes off. Friday Night Lights was just the beginning!! Hate to seem too picky about the details, but Mike Williams wasn't in Friday Night Lights. It was Roy Williams who attended Odessa Permian HS. He played one of the assistant coaches for Midland Lee, Odessa's rival. Link While nonconsequential in the end, hate for Mike Williams to get credit for anything Roy has done. The Lions do not want to take the cap hit by getting rid of him, so I agree he will sit the pine unless a miracle happens.

irish
Lets be honest, most of these guys come from the hood or middle class at best, all their friends and families do drugs, and now they are loaded with money and still have the same friends and families. Their favorite past time is John Madden Football, you know damn well they almost ALL get high! Some are just smart enough to beat the system, they make plenty of drinks that clean your urine up in an hour or less. "Oh you want me to take a UA, ok, but i dont have to go just yet, let me drink my juice". An hour later Mike Williams is a stand up drug free guy. Dont ever give me that candied yams that these guys arent all on drugs, ive used them all at some point, i can assure you most of the league is on drugs. You can tell by their behaviors and the efforts they give. Anyone with a CLEAR MIND would think "hmm i can make millions of dollars and be a hero to people worldwide, i can have the cars, the houses, the hot chicks, all of it, all i have to do is work hard for 5 to 10 years and im set for my entire life". Yet they show up overweight and out of shape, they show up late for meetings, they get arrested for all this penny ante candied yams like DUI's, fights, spousal abuse, handgun violations, candied yamsting in a womans closet, whatever. You think these guys do this stuff for fun? NO, they do it because they have their heads up their asses, and drugs (and or alchohol) is the #1 cause for someone to have their head up their ass. AND . . . . . . i dont work for the NFL so i really dont know how their UA system works, but id wager that the guys get a little notice, i highly doubt the NFL comes on and takes a player at gunpoint and says piss now or we kill you. The NFL doesnt want them getting busted, its bad for business, its bad press, its bad for the talent pool when you lose a stud, the NFL acts like they care, they dont, its a front to make them look like they care. ALl they care about is fans, and players (high or sober) bring the fans, so i dont need proof. Mike Williams = Pothead. Charles Rogers = Pothead. To be honest with you i think the entire Lions team is on drugs Roy Williams and Kevin Jones included. Some players just handle it a little better, or have a little better sense of their priorities. Its easy to see man, open your eyes. Take Chris Henry for example, the moment i heared he got pulled over with an expired tag, i knew he was a drug addict. Come on, who the hell makes several hundred thousand dollars a year and cant renew a dang license plate? Answer = Someone who needs to get high and thats priority #1. Heck Randy Moss admitted on HBO last year that he STILL smokes pot, so obviously if he is beating the system so can anyone else who tries to. Some are just too stupid or lax to make sure they beat the system. Wow couldn't have said it better myself.
