Questions Regarding Curtis Martin

Curtis Martin nees 1,169 yards to become #3 on the all time leading rusher list. DMD has himdown for 840 rushing yards this year. My question is how much time does he have left on his contract, and does anyone think that he will play beyond this year? The reason I ask, has nothing to do with FF, but with collecting. I collect autographed footballs, spamshirts, helmets. It is my goal to have an autographed football from the top three in rushing, receiving, and passing. Well, I already have the Emmitt Smith and Walter Peyton autographed footballs, and have the oppurtunity to get a Curtis Martin ball cheap, but don't necessarily want it if he isn't going to get the 1,169 yards. So, what do you thin, does CuMar have 2 years left in him?

Hmm, tough call but Martin has been a warrior over his career and has managed to avoid injuries. However this knee injury he is battling is really affecting him and the downhill slide looks to be steep. I'd say he's got a 60% chance of getting to that spot. Does he have 2 years left, eh maybe, barely. He'll be doing good to get every one of those yards IMO.

Unless he gets a career-ending injury, I think Martin is a good bet to become the #3 all-time rusher in 2 years....

That was my thinking as well. He would only have to average 585 yards per year. I'm just not sure what his contract status is, and even if he does have an additional year left, I don't know how the contract is structured, which could make a difference on whether or not he plays beyond this season.

I don't know the exact details of his contract, but he did sign an 8 year extension with the Jets in 2002, so sounds like he has plenty of time left.

I'm guessing that was really structured to be a 3-5 year contract in reality.

IMO, he could take a "specialist role" after this year where he's only getting a 200-300 yds rushing each year for a year or two...so, if he gets 800yds this year and 200 each of the next two, he'll get there. But, if he only plays one more year, he'll need 900 this year and 300 next.

I'd agree w/ the 60/40 call.

Look at it this way..........If you can get the autographed football cheap now, why not invest, and if he does, great, you now have the top three and the value goes up.

If he doesn't make the top 3, then you could build your collection to include signed balls from the top 4 RB's in the league

I don't think so. I was reading here about how Cu-Mar recently said he felt he could play another year. The singular (rather than plurar) nature of that comment stood out to me like a mime at an NRA meeting.

I was waiting for someone to say that. That's what I'd do. Most likely, Curtis Martin knows very well what he needs to get there, and I'm sure he'll do his best to complete that. Just play it safe and get the autograph. :D

Well while it is somewhat of an investment, it is more just for my football shrine, and I am starting to run out of wall space to put them on. I see your point, but I'm not sure I'm going to have room for it if he doesn't.

RB C. Martin Could Be Cut? It's Possible

Dave Hutchinson, Newark Star-Ledger - [Full Article]

Turns out Jets RB Curtis Martin is human after all. Placing him on the PUP list buys the Jets time and is precautionary. This off-season, Martin had his base salary cut from $6.2 million to $2.5 million and it isn't out of the question that he could be released if his knee doesn't come around. It was a bit alarming in June when Martin was still hobbled during minicamp, but the Jets downplayed the injury. Martin has bounced back from injury throughout his career, but Father Time may have finally caught up to him.

Looks like I need to find Barry Sanders autographed ball to sit on the self with Emmitt and Walter

Anyone think Cedric Houston could carry the load if given the chance? :D

I don't think he's getting that many yards this year, not with this line. I can easily see him as a salary cap casualty next season. Not sure if there's a team out there that would make him a starter again, especially with the flux of RBs nowadays. Maybe a lowly team needing to fill the seats like the Cards did with Emmitt. I think there's a reason the ball is being sold and why the ball is cheap, cause he's not making the top of the list.

I doubt the price goes up much if he makes it to #3, if the ball is truely cheap, you should just buy it. Just sell it when he retires, prob get your money back if not more
