Apparantly Curtis Martin not hurt *that* bad

Hutch is one of the best beat reporters we have. I went to camp yesterday (Friday) the opener, and agree with what he said. Houston is clearly faster than he was last year, and you can easilly see he lost some weight. last year, he was noticably slower than Martin and Blaylock.... this year, he's very close to Blaylock's speed.... in fact, he looked even faster than Blaylock!

Not only was it a surprise to see Trevor Johnson with the first team over Bryan Thomas, but Chatham was starting over Hobson at the other OLB spot too. My guess is that both spots will be a rotation. Johnson seems better at the pass rush, Thomas better in coverage. Coleman and Rhodes were the starters at safety, and Dyson, Miller and Barrett rotated at the corners. Barrett got burned bt a 65 yard (40 yards in the air) TD, Pennington to Cotchery.

Cotchery is starting, as McCariens reported out of shape and was PUP'd! Mangini is obviously not going to let even the vets slack off. Coles clearly doesn't have the speed he used to possess. Ramsey had him open deep, and everyone thought Coles should have been able to get under that pass. I actually though Houston got more carries than Blaylock, but I was also trying to watch the line play, and the beat writers say Blaylock got the most. Blaylock didn't look all that good to me.... in fact, both Houston and Washington looked to be faster. his foot may still be affecting him.

Back to the defense.... Sutton ran mostly the 3-4, with Ellis and von Ohlenhoffen (sp?) at DE, robertson at NT, but Pouha got some 1st team snaps, and seemed to be playing well. At field level it can be tough to see what goes on in the interior line, but after some pads cracked, Pouha was getting head slaps from his team mates and "atta boys" from the CS. Jets fans have been very impatient with this second year kid because of his draft position, but he was a known project. I still think he could be the answer at NT for the next six years.... we shall see. Schlegel looks like a beast, and plays with an attitude. Vilma and Barton are entrenched at the ILB spots, with Kassell and Schlegel behind them.

I was going to wait until I went back to TC on Monday to post a report, but there is the short version...oh, the QB's.

Pennigton looks very much the way he did last year... one nice pass, two bad ones. He still flutters the ball, and sometimes sails it. I just don't know.... I love the guy, but....

Ramsey has too much arm. He isn't accurate, and often overthrows his recivers. He did look more comfortable than he did according to mini camp reports. I just don't trust him. If he wins the job, I could see him throwing two INT's a game. Maybe not quite that much, but only because he overthrows, where no one can catch the ball.

People love to hate Bollinger, but this kid isn't as bad as his rep. He was thrown into an impossible situation last year, didn't have access to the whole playbook until the last 3 games, had no o line and no running game. I mean, he was getting sacked on 3 step drops through no fault of his own! He's just steady, can tuck and run for a 1st down and can make most of the throws. He's an ideal #2 or 3 QB.

The reports that Clemens doesn't have a strong arm are COMPLETELY bogus. He threw a 60+ yard pass that went incomplete, but it was pretty, and he threw it where only the WR had a shot at it. His deep hook passes are perfect. He threw one 15 yard pass, threading the needle down the middle that looked like it came out of a cannon. I feel much more confident the Jets may have their QB of the future.... maybe the near future. IMO, he looked the best of the four.

Nice write Rovers

How did Eric Smith do, word before was they liked him as a better fit than Coleman, which baffled me. Good to hear beast associated with Schlegel. Cimini absolutely ripped the Jets as they cut off all fan and especially media contact. Not a real good way to start IMO..... I know Mangini is treating this like NE South, but that sh*t will not fly around here for long.....

You mean "Barton," not "Barnett." I do understand the confusion, though, given our numerous debates regarding Vilma vs. Barnett and Hodge vs. Barnett, etc. :D

BTW -- since Clemens looks so good, how 'bout we swap DTS QBs in DW2, like I mentioned before? Rodgers for Clemens, straight up. I think you get the better end of that deal. :D:D

I have promised someone to watch the saefeties more closely on Monday. The first day... is overwhelming. You need three pairs of eyes to watch everything you want to see, from the new coaches, the new schemes, the new players. That's why I was going to wait till after the Monday practice to do a report. I want to see which safety had the deep covergae reponsability most of the time, and then see which spot Smith comes in at. Coleman seems like a better fit in Edwards old interchangable safety scheme than this one.

I saw Rhodes break up some 13 yard sideline hook patterns, so I'm really not sure how this scheme is supposed to work in coverage. I'll see what I can get for you on Smith come Monday.

Yeah Swiss, Barrett, Barton, Barnett.... it's all a blur! I guess I should edit that! So, now you want Rodgers, after raping me in that last deal, eh? Well, I have Clemens on my DW I roster.... so I'm happy with that, but thanks anyway, you freakin highway robber!

HoP, I don't think Mangini gives 2 chits what the reporters think. From what I have heard at TC and on Jets message boards, the fans like it. These reporters never had to work for their stories, Herm was always there, comparing Vick to chasing a chicken, or some other stupid stuff. Canizzaro of the Post said camp opening was "Marred by an ugly incident" because a gaggle of these clowns chased Ferguson down at the cafeteria. Ferguson actually had to run away from them! And, we know Canizzaro is MUCH to fat to waddle fast enough to catch Fergy. Let these tools watch practice and write some real reports instead of whining.

All good info here. I'll be very interested in how the safety situation develops.

Also, I agree wholeheartedly on the points made in the last paragraph. I think the NY football media was a little spoiled. That's why I kinda liked the way Pennington handled things last year. Maybe I'm still in the minority on that. :D:D

No doubt the NY media and the Jets as a whole need a brutal wake up call. When you cut off the media, you cut off the average fan. You nor I am the average fan. I hope Mangini makes these silver spoon athletes puke after practice is over. These guys make $$ most men/broads will never see in a lifetime. I dont care what they make, EARN it on gameday, make me a proud Jet fan reguardless of the final score. Canizzaro should stick to golf, his fatass was born of the Jet media food buffet spread :D I like that Mangini is projecting a new attidude, I just dont feel like reading all the bullsh*t they write in papers each day......

Where are you? Jersey or Queens ? I gotta make a run to LI in the next few weeks, maybe we grab a pint....

Heck, I'm on LI, only 15 minutes away from Hofstra. In fact, on Tuesday I'm hooking up with a guy from Jersey and another fella for TC. (I know these guys from TGG, a Jets message board) We'll cacth the 8:45, one guy wants some autographs, then back to my place for some burgers, relax a while, and head back to Hofstra for the 5:30 session. Yer more than welcome to join us. If not then, another time is fine. PM me if you plan to head out to TC. There are only 7 2 a days this year.... check the TC schedule at the Jets official site.

Mangini's practices are brutal compared to Edwards'. People hate Cimini and Canizzaro and their ilk so much, most Jets fans are happy when they aren't. Instead of reporting how Johnson is starting over Thomas at OLB, these guys are writing stories complaining that they aren't allowed on the turf field with their coffee cups! I'm SERIOUS! They are actually writing articles like that! The more Mangini makes their pitiful lives miserable, the happier I am!

:D They (and their editors) need to be fired. That's downright ridiculous.
