Frank Gore

I don't honestly know what my problem is, but I have a pretty good feeling about Frank Gore this year. A lot of the lower RBs to be drafted this year have a ton of question-marks...but it seems that this guy could potentially break out and put together a decent season. Does any one share my hunch about this? Or am I just drinking the K-ade?

He's playing for perhaps the most FFL RB friendly Offensive Cordinator in the league (Norv Turner), his main competition has proven to be a bust (Kevan Barlow), the 49ers have one of the softest schedules in the league for run defenses (at least on paper), and the o-line has been upgraded.

If he can stay healthy, it's hard to imagine him not putting up respectable numbers and starting in a lot of 12 team leagues that play at least 2 RBs.

I'm not concerned with Kevin Barlow. The franchise as a whole and the niners faithful have seen all the need to see of Barlow and his unfulfilled hype. Nolan and the current staff have no loyalty to Barlow.

Nolan also spoke highley of Gore at the end of the season, I remember him saying something along the lines of "Yeah, I think we have us a pretty good runningback in Gore" all the while smiling like a little kid in the candy store. Gore is one of Nolan's guys, and has way more potential than Barlow.

There is only one thing that can stop Gore, and that is his body. Remember that he was ahead of McGahee and every other Miami runningback until injuries took him down. He's a tough kid, that will play through an injury if possible, but you can't really do anything about ligaments tearing and things of that nature.

I hope he can finally stay healthy.

He is most definately a #2 RB for all the above reasons. You will be able to draft him, at least from what I have seen so far, a lot later than other RB who are in a RBBC and/or have question marks. I also think he will suprise this year and will give you very good value for the spot he was drafted in.

Gore's been the reason I've been waiting for RB2 in my mocks. I can get him late and flesh out the WRs with some top tier talent. I just hope this "hunch" is better than Butch Davis' "gut feeling" about William Green...

While I like Gore well enough and think if he's able to stay healthy, he should take the job from Barlow, I don't see the 49er O'line being that much better than last year.

Larry Allen was let go by the Cowboys, who had their own O'line porblems last year. I think Parcells knows what he's doing and if he released Allen from a line that struggled last year, that tells me something.

I watched Alex Smith as much as I could last year and while there's no doubt that his surrounding talent was pretty bad, he was even worse. Rookie flutters maybe, but I don't think so. Guy just looked absolutely putrid to me, from his first start, to his last. I didn't see any progress from him. I fear the 49er's got a B - U - S - T of a QB. The best thing the 49er's did for this kid was to go get Dilfer. Maybe Dilfer can settle him down and help him out some.

The 49er's haven't exactly done much to up-grade the WR's for Smith either. (no offense to Bryant or Battle)

VD will be good I think, but won't be able to do it all.

In short, while I think Gore would be a pleasant surprise at RB on a host of other teams, I don't think his surrounding talent in San Fran, is going to allow us to see what he could really do.

My expectations would be tempered, but for where you can draft him :D

Careful with Gore. No matter how much my Niners like him (and they do), they are very skeptical that he can carry the load of a feature back. Thus, even in a best case scenario he'll merely get the better end of what could be a 3-way RBBC stick.

Even if one of the 9er RBs gets the bulk of the load, there aren't the kind of #'s in that offense to produce any #2 RB. There probably won't be one game they will be favored in. No defense, no QB, bad line. I would take a backup at receiver before I took Gore to start. Good talent, just zero chance of having a good year.

I think I'm having Deja Vu as this sounds a lot like the hype on Barlow 3-4 years ago. I not near as comfortable with him putting up #2 RB stats as most of you guys are. Gore has talent but there is also the injury concern and the fact that he plays on the 49ers. It's not like Gore will routinely be the beneficiary of pounding the ball late in games to protect leads. When was the last time a 49er was a good fantasy starter?

I think he's got 1000 yard potential, but I don't think SF is prone to scoring enough to warrant bumping him too high. Think Warrick Dunn or a 2003 Barlow....
