modus
I searched and saw this wasn't posted. I apologize if this is in the wrong forum. I figure if you're like me most of you get the NFL package from DirecTV, so I'd pass this along since I get so much from this forum. If you have a good relationship with DirecTV and have a history of getting the NFL package you can call the retention program, if you're polite and a little lucky you'll qualify for a high def DVR, free superfan, free installation, and possible 4 months of free programming. NOTE: You're leasing the high def DVR. I called the other day and got all of that setup. The high defintion DVR you're getting is their old one, so you won't be able to view local high definition from their new satellite. Here's a link with more information on the deal. http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messagevie...threadid=623289 Edited July 31, 2006 by modus

CopeDog
Do you work for DiecTV or something? Nah, I was checking around on the internet after reading this and I guess the offers differ from person to person depending how knowledgeable the rep is. I just said I was switching to Dish and that Sunday ticket wasnt worth it to me since the channels werent in HD. He threw in the dish because the DVR needs two inputs and told him my dish only had 2 lines and i wasnt paying for an upgrade.
Ralph Furley
I might have to try this. Do you think they'd throw in an HD TV since I don't have one?

Four months of free programming(HBO, Showtime, etc . . .) I'm still paying for the NFL package. Like you said it really depends on what rep you get. I'm not wild about the idea of satellite but I've had it with POS Comcast.
Blowing Up
You get a better deal if you are a current subscriber and tell them you are going to move to Comcast or Dish Network, or some various other service. I've been with DirecTV for years and told them I was moving to Comcast. They offered me: 1. HD DVR 2. 4 free months HD Programming 3. $10 credit for 12 months 4. HBO, Cinemax, Starz, Encore (free for 2 months) 5. Superfan for free They key is you need to call the DirecTV Retention number directly. 1-800-824-9081

I don't even know what that is. I had DirecTV for a long time and changed six months ago because I was tired of paying for receivers. I had Comcast but the Dallas market is changing to Time Warner. I guess Time Warner is getting is a pissing war with the NFL Network, so they don't have the NFL Network. This is how I found about all these deals. It really depends on who you get as a customer rep unfortunately. They're not very consistent from what I've read. I guess a few people ended up calling three times before they landed a deal. Do they cancel the service for you right then and there??? I don't want to cancel DirecTV, but I currently own my two receivers, and want to upgrade to two new receivers with DVR and a HD DVR for my new basement 61" ...... And I would like to upgrade without getting taken to the cleaner. When I called them the first time, I had a hugh A$$hole basically saying he didn't care if I dropped my service....... I want to get the Sunday ticket and DirecTV is my only option , but I don't want to threaten to quit and then then bend over ......... Suggestions??? When I called I just said, "I was IMing a friend about the new NFL season and signing back up, when he mentioned that he got all this for being a long time subscriber. I was wondering is it possible for me to get in on this deal?" That's what worked for me, but I also only called once. I was also polite, but I think some of it had to do with the luck of the draw on who I got in the retention department.
modus
I've always had a good relationship with DirecTV. The only reason I left earlier was because I really wanted a high def DVR and just wasn't willing to buy one. I'm installing my Tivo and a HD Tivo for my install, so that sounds a lot like what you're trying to do.
Ziachild007
Just called that number and got Becca, real nice lady. I told her I had a friend call to cancel and he was given free programming and credits, but that when I called last week no one offered me anything at all....(which by the way is true). So she hooked me up with a $50 instant credit and a $10 credit over the next 12 months. Frickin'sweet!!!!

All she said was she was looking into changing service and wanted to know what DTV was going to do to keep her as a customer.
