The Real Deal . . . . . now thats funny. Its sad when the entire fantasy football world can cringe in advance of a coach hire (McCarthy), that says alot about Green Bays man in charge, does he even watch football ?

Very bad night for Rex Grossman, who threw several bad interceptions in the various sessions of the night practice. Mike Brown, Charles Tillman and Brian Urlacher each picked him once and Nathan Vasher had to do the standard brace of pushups after he dropped a freebie that would have gone 90 yards the other way if he'd held onto it.

If he was able to avoid injury, he'd be cut and hanging out in a bar with Jeff George by now.

He had Aaron Brooks put up decent numbers... Aaron Brooks.

Oh and for all you jackass Vikings, Lions, and bears fans that rip on Favre...

How many playoff games has Brad Johnson, Glass Grossman, and Kitna won combined?

MVP's?

Rings?

Look at what he did the first half of the year last season, before he lost everyone not named Driver. He was a stud. Just watch. Oh here you go, so no need to respond with any of these... :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I sent an email out to a buddy of mine today (Packer fan) relaying that Favre threw five picks in practice, three to Woodson. He wrote back the equivalent of "well, at least Woodson looks like a good signing". I said, yea, if you think its hard to pick off Favre. :D

I saw that Brett Favre quote in the paper. It read that he said this is the best team he's ever been around. :D

He said it was the most talent, but it is raw talent and he is not sure hoe that will develop.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinal is reporting that head coach Mike McCarthey is using the new Bill Parcells "Backyard Drills" instructional DVD in this year training camp. Farve says he has never seen a more atheletic bunch. :D

You've got to be kidding, Hell I could go out & buy Parcells' DVD & run it for a team, maybe I should post my name for the next NFL coaching job. :D

I'm sorry Packers fans, I'd love to be wrong, but I can say with 100% confidence that McCarthy will rank as one of the worst coaches the Pack has ever had...if not THE worst. That loud thump you may have heard when he was hired was the entire collective of Saints fans as they hit the floor in disbelief. I hope for your sakes I am completely wrong. Unfortunately for you I know I'm not.

Yeah, I know what you mean. A few years back, Green Bay did the same thing and hired a no-name who had not coached in the pros. His main claim to fame was being a coach at Fordham University. They were the laughing stock of the league.

I guess hiring Lombardi as the head coach turned out okay, huh?

FYI, McCarthy is not a no-name coach from Fordham University and even thinking of speaking his name in the same breath as Lombardi should be punishable by dressing you as a sheep & tieing you up in front of Spain's house.

Seriously, though, you're right. Lombardi was obviously special & there may not be another one like him ever.

However, the whole point was that no one here knows what kind of HC McCarthy will be, so it's awfully hard to pass judgment on him when there is no resume established yet. I'll wait & see what he's capable of - he comes from a cradle of coaches in SF, so I'm willing to cut him some slack.

Erm, that whole "cradle of coaches" sorta dried up once Walsh left.

But, yeah, it's tough to say who will and won't fail as a HC - heck, Belicheck and Shanahan were arguably failures before succeeding wildly, and conversely, guys like Ted Marchibroda, Chuck Knox, Tom Flores and Mike Ditka failed after being successful - so even a prior track record doesn't indicate much.

I'm not necessarily inspired by the McCarthy hire - he seems to have "Dave Wannstedt" written all over him (i.e. Pittsburgh "tough guy" who certainly talks tough but doesn't appear to actually be tough) - but my crystal ball is in the shop so I can't say for certain how it's going to turn out.

I just sold my house and my car. I'm putting it all on the Packers to win it all this year. :D

This after dragging the team through hell waiting for him to make a decision when he basically blackmailed them to try get some actual talent on the team before he would come back. Ummmm....anybody seen any of this talent? :D:D

Any offense Mike McCarthy ever put his hands on went straight into the toilet. Now im supposed to think hes going to turn around the Packers entire team ? Im thinking "no" on this one.

New Orleans' offenses were at worst slightly below average while he was there - after being bottom-third offenses under Ditka.

I'm willing to give darn near everyone a mulligan on SF last year - for one, the 9ers were/are extremely talent-poor; for another, they were OK - not great, but competent - until they dumped Dorsey and went with Smith. Rookie QB = OC death-ray.

Rajn -- why do you think McCarthy will fail so miserably?

I may have missed it, but I don't remember you commenting on this issue when he was hired.

Experience. Did you forget McCarthy was the OC for the Saints? The guy is as predictable as the sun rising & setting. He may have all the technical knowledge in the world, but he has absolutely no sense of creativity. Take this thread for example. How is he attempting to coach up his team? By buying Parcells' instructional DVD off the shelf. Maybe I missed the genius in that, but I thought a video like that was meant for grade schoolers. :D

I have a feeling that some of you guys are looking way too much into this. He may have the dvd, and he might have borrowed something from it, but I highly doubt he's building training camp around it. He's competent enough to know what he's doing. I look at the DVD as another resource. You want as many resources as you can get.

His history proves my point well enough, the DVD is just a little taste.

When McCarthey was first hired a few months ago, I was absolutley livid, as I wanted Jim Bates to get the job. Upon further review, I still think Bates was the guy... In MM Defense, he did take one of the worst offenses in the league and raise it to mediocre... I guess thats a good thing... :D
