samurai30
Jordan's workload: Running back LaMont Jordan said he would like to get 23-26 carries a game in Shell's new offense -- aimed at adding some punch to the running game. Shell wasn't so sure. "I also have to make sure Justin Fargas gets some carries," he said, referring to Jordan's backup who, Shell noted, "is having a great camp." http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?...SPGNVKA0RV1.DTL
DMD
Fargas was probably injured before Shell finished his sentence. My understanding is that Fargas was not even certain to make the team this year.
Coffeeman
I don't see how a RB/WR/TE saying he wants more touches qualifies as newsworthy - same with the coach saying he needs to give the other guy his fair shot. Pre-season babble, blah, blah, blah... Dagnabbit - can't wait for the useless hype to be over and for the real season to begin!

Who else is going to backup lamont or take carries away from him?

Yeah..hard to say what really is going to happen..but its weird why Shell would say that. If lamont is going to be the workhorse..say he's going to be...not that hard... CaptainHook
It's the pre-season. All the coaches "want" to get everybody "involved". When push comes to shove, Fargas won't see the field much.
yo mama
Of COURSE Shell wants to give some of those carries to another back. Over 16 games that'd be like 368-417 carries. For some perspective, Alexander had a league high 370 last year. That 23-26 carry per game comment by Jordan indicates he's either suicidal, career wise, or simply bad at math. I applaud his moxy, but the coaching staff would have to be stupid to give that many carries to Jordan... especially if he expects to get receptions on top of those numbers. So Shell's comments make pefect sense to me.

Yes, I agree with you Jordan needs breathers, but jordan was not that effective when he got less then 20 carries a game..albeit..last year..the raiders defense was so poor they were getting blown out by halftime..and from the looks of things...the raider D isn't much improved. Hopefully the D will keep them in the game....so lamont can get over 20 carries. He won't get 70 receptions like last year though. Probably a little more then half that amount. yellowdog
I keep re-enforcing this to the Jordan owner in my league. So far, he isn't biting.

Return Of S&B
Jordan Blows...he's not even second round material Relax fellas...Shell is just trying to motivate his players. If Jordan runs well he'll be getting the rock 20+ a game....if not, than Art will bring in whoever is on the bench to try to light a spark under Jordan's azz. As much as I like Jordan, I was surprised when I heard he didnt even bother to learn the run-blocking scheme last year...sounds like a player who needs a foot up his... Besides even if Fargas got more than 10 carries a game he wouldnt last...he's fragile as glass...i'm pretty sure Fargas wont even make the team next year because this is the last year of his rookie contract. WaterMan
So I should check and see if players take yoga before drafting them...
The Vatican Hitsquad
It's just some old school, Bill Parcells style mini camp motivation. A shot across Jordan's "bow" to make him think he has to hussle to prove himself worthy of carrying full load.
Big Score 1
Color me unsurprized that Shell wants to get Fartgas more carries this year. I anticipate Fartgas seeing at least a 100% increase, compared to his carries last year.

And really you want your RBs to have a reliable change of pace guy to spell him now and then. As long as he's not vulturing TDs. Jordan is the man in Oakland, Fargas is not a threat.
