RussMan
The Lions had their one and only open practice. A couple quick takeaways from a fantays perspective. 1. Kevin Jones looks quite good. He is going to be the featured guy. Also, unlike last season, he was invlolved in passing downs and looked fine catching the ball. 2. Roy Williams looks like the real deal. He was making some great catches and should have a great season this year. Croj and Mike Williams... disappointing. Croj is dogging it unless the ball is coming his way and Mike Williams looks slow. Mike is big and does use his body to position himself for the catch but he is no Roy Williams. I would not be surprised if Croj is cut. Corey Bradford looks like the #2 to Roy's #1. Not spectacular but consistent. It will bei interesting to see which WR make the team as some of lower drafted and less paid look as good/better than the higher profile guys. 3. Kitna looks solid, confident and accurate on short/midrange throws. Should be easily and upgrade to Harrington and lend stability to the position. 4. Arlen Harris looks to be KJ backup. Will be interesting to see how he and Calhoun shake out during the preseason. So Kitna definately is the best of the lot. He is the starter and could be ok as a QB#2 with some upside. Roy Williams is for real. If he stays healthy and Martz throws as much as he usually does he will have a great season. The other WR's are a crapshoot. Kevin Jones should have his best season, no time share, in on third downs, and with a better offensive line.
theeohiostate
Thanks for the headups. I am eyeing KJ or Westy in the late 2nd and it's a tough call for me, probably go with Westy due to PPR but i'd love to take KJ.
ABearWithFurniture
3. Kitna looks solid, confident and accurate on short/midrange throws. Screw the short/midrange throws...I want to know if he can put it in the hands of Rogers and Williams 40 yards down the field while they are in stride... How did McCown look?... TheGrunt
Good to hear some promising news for Roy Williams and Kevin Jones; both happen to be on my team this year.

ABearWithFurniture
Like a 2nd stringer who needs to play better or else he will find himself on the 3rd string. lol...oh yeah, Kitna is the answer to the Lion's prayers...3 burners at WR and he's throwing the short/midrange passes...Jones and whoever the TE is should definitely be bumped up the boards if that's the case... McCown looked decent last year in his starts with Arizona...same type of offense being instilled in Detroit this year and supposedly an open competition for starting QB... Avernus
I just picked up KJ as a #3 in a draft I was in today.... a real competitive league
ABearWithFurniture
Should have added that I don't necessarily think that McCown is a great QB...just think he might fit that offense better than Kitna...JMHO

Not saying Kitna is the answer. but it has become obvious to all he is hands down the best QB in camp. Also, if McCown was in the offense last year then he is not to bright as Kitna has picked up the offense much quicker than anyother QB on the team(or so they say). IMO McCown is closer to losing his job as the 2nd stringer than he is in winning the starting job. That being said, it is early in the year. maybe things will kick in for McCown. spain
Here we go again! Every f'n August we hear the same song and dance about how great the Lions are looking. How their stars will put up unbelievably eye-popping stats for their respective fantasy owners. How their WR corps is the best ever. How their RB's are headed straight to Canton. How this is finally the Lions year to turn around the quintessential moribund franchise in all of professional sports. And by the time October rolls around, we will once again see the Lioness mathematically eliminated from playoff contention and all of their offensive players are total busts. Same song, 40th verse. And I believe we all know the name of Detroits theme song....

ABearWithFurniture
Also I dont know which 3 burners you were talking about at WR? I dont see it. Well, they keep advertising them as 'burners'...guess it's just all the fantasy coaches that draft them each year feeling the heat... wildcat2334
Kitna and long ball in the same sentence- funny chit. He is journeyman at best and I would be pissed if I was a Detroit homer heading into the season with Kitna as my #1- guy is a limited QB, and is gonna be brutal running that offense- bring back Erik Kramer or Gary Danielson! I realize that being a Lion homer has taken it's toll on you over the years...but the Lions this time around, new coach, new offense, and McCown was playing in Arizona last year...so basically both Kitna and McCown have to learn the new offense...McCown played in a similiar offense with the Cards, and throws a tad bit better long ball than Kitna, again JMHO... If Kitna does manage to hang onto the starting spot going into the reg. season, September will be a long one for you and I wouldn't count on him being there by October...
