from Bernie Miklasz of the Post-Dispatch via his forum:

Linehan, on RB Steven Jackson's condition ... Jackson walking around with his shoe off...

"He kind of strained his achilles. It bothered him last week. He's been taping it since. In one of the drills, one of our special category periods, he strained it. It was just precautionary to keep him out. We've got another practice tonight, so we'll see where he is."

just fyi

He gets dinged a lot, and it's hidden not in games missed, but games he leaves early after getting the start.

IF someone knew where to find info about a player leaving a game from injury, I'd like to know what his record is. I'm guessing at least 3 times each of the past 2 years.

Hmmmm...over the last two seasons, how many times has LT2 left games early?

As a former LT owner, I can only answer with the vague "too f'in many".

I'd guess somewhere from 2-4 in each of the past 2 years, just based on my own fallible perceptions.

Is this the kind of thing that heals up pretty quick or lingers all year long?

I personally take the achilles as something that can feel fine all week and then tighten up again out of nowhere by taking a step it doesn't like...

I'm no doctor, just a personal observation..

A strain is a stretching injury to a muscle or tendon. The are graded in 4 levels:

Grade 1 - fairly minor

Grade 2 - Partial tear

Grade 3-4 - Lacerating to Complete tear

They can be nagging and troublesome.

Treatment: Stop doing the activity that caused the injury for between a week and a few months, depending upon the degree of degeneration. Relative rest should last at least 1 week for a grade 1 or 2 injury, at least 3 weeks for a grade 3 injury, and at least 1 month for a grade 4 injury. During the relative rest period also stop performing activities and sports that are similar to the one that caused the injury, i.e. soccer is similar to running, handball is similar to tennis, etc.
