Richardson compares C.Taylor to Priest

Article in St. Paul Pioneer Press about Chester Taylor. It's mostly just a homer cheerleader piece, but there are some interesting things in there if you're interested.

Tony Richardson compares Chester Taylor to Priest Holmes and also to Westbrook. :D

The most interesting part of the article though IMO comes towards the end, where OC Darrell Bevell talks about the number of carries he would like to see Taylor get each game.

Asked what a typical game-day's work for Taylor might be, Bevell said: "You'd like to get him over 20 carries, and then have four or five balls through the air. Something like that. If we're getting him 20 carries, that means we're doing a great job in the run game."

I heard a similar comment on Sirius a few minutes ago. Not sure if it was the same person or not, but they made the comparison to Priest.

Time will tell...

its what I have been saying all along...

You don't pay the guy the money they paid him to be a RBBC...

..... Though they did say that if Taylor couldnt get it done they would likely use Moore a lot more.

It should be noted, Im a Taylor owner, and I have super high expectations for him. Im talking 1500 yards, 12 TDs, 40-50 catches, and a few TDs.

Take it for what it is, but we'll all be talking about taking him in the 1st round next year.

Oh okay, so he's going to get hurt a lot once he becomes a starter and then let all the local and FF fans down come FF playoff time. Cool, got it, I think that'll keep me away. :D

Taylor is such a stud he couldnt be out Jamal Lewis. You can take him in the 1st round next year, ill be laughing.

Neither could Holmes, hence the comparison, maybe?

Only an idiot wouldnt see Billicks man love for Jamal and know HE was the reason Taylor didnt "beat out" Jamal.

Oh wait, that means you.

Touche!

If that is true, then we are saying that Jamal is better than Taylor, Holmes, and LJ since he couldn't beat out Holmes until PH was injured!

No, its saying that no one except Jamal was given the chance to be a star, and when they leave, they have that chance. Priest took it and ran with it. Now its Taylors turn to show what he can do.

I agree with you and I was going to post what you had said about Billick loving Ja Lewis, but thought I would then make another comparison to emphasize the point previously stated, and how ridiculous it was.

ahh the great nutfest that is training camp- Everyone is gonna get 20+ carries, and everyone raves about em- then the season starts.

I'm believing every word...think I'm getting a kool aid headache from drinking so much of it. Most of my teams are going to have Taylor and Mike Bell as my starting RBs, then of course Greg Jennings and Javon Walker as my starting WRs. I heard about Walker's spectacular catch last week and my shorts are still drying. At QB I'm stuck between Rivers and Kitna. Leaning toward Rivers, the buzz around this kid is so infectious.

Well GEEEZE. The guy has had a mediocre career to date, now im supposed to jump on his bandwagon instantly and ride him to titles for the next half decade? I think not.

Heres what i think. I think the Minnesota RB is indeed a very stout job to have, i do however need to see him play before i start gushing over him. Why you ask? Because im always skeptical of someone who is expected to have a huge year, when they have yet to do jack candied yams and they have a chronic fumbling problem. Yes his huge downfall is hes a FUMBLER ! I bet you didnt research him did ya?

But hey, i agree the situation looks great, but something in my gut says something about a 10-foot pole . . . . . . . . . . .

Problem with that approach is, if you wait for him to perform well before you take him, you won't get him. I traded Alexander for Taylor and Bush in my dynasty league. It may haunt me for the next decade, but I am currently a believer.

I don't ever remember BAL or KC complaining about Holmes reporting to the team in a fat & out of shape condition.

I'll believe it when I see it. Moore has done better things in his limited opportunities in MIN than Taylor has done with his in BAL.

Point taken, but fumbling can be fixed. I dont know of him being a fumbler, but personally, I wouldnt care if he fumbled a few times throughout the year if he put up the numbers I think he is capable of.

And why has he had a mediocre career to date? Well, I think I recall him playing backup his whle career thus far. Do backups become stars overnight? Not all the time, but some do, and when given the opportunity, you have to jump on them before they prove they are stars (in keepers and dynasty leagues).

Is Taylor a 1st round pick this year? not likely. Is he a 2nd tounder? Depends on the spot you draft him. I think he will prove to be a very capable 2nd rounder, and next year, well, see my thoughts above for that.

when I made the reference yesterday about rarely agreeing with you...

this is what I am talking about...

the Ravens and Vikings run 2 COMPLETELY different systems....

the Vikings system is "Taylor" :D made for Chester...

Childress got the back he wanted and built his system around him...

the 4 or 5 receptions a game is where I have been saying he's this year's LaMont Jordan...and I said last year just as someone said in this thread "come this time next year, Jordan will be a top 10 back"...

the only problem I made was not trusting my gut when it told me to trade LJ2 by my leagues trading deadline...

I will trade Taylor by this years deadline if the deal is right...and if he's healthy...

And one more thing on Chester Taylors stats. When i gauge a backup RBs stats i look at NFL.com game logs. Their game logs tell a nice story. Taylors game logs show me that he struggles to average much more than 3 yards per carry on alot of occasions. In alot of instances the more carrys he had in the game, the worse his average. Also hes got inflated stats due to a few decent runs a season. As a backup, he has snuck for some longer runs, those have brought his career average way up. You take a few runs away from him each season, and he averages well under 4 yards a carry.

Thats my formula for determining flukes. When a guy dont get alot of carrys, see how many stat inflating runs they have had. Often they are garbage time draw plays, 3rd and long trickery, crap like that, makes him look much better than he is. Chester is like 27 years old, so its now or never for him, if he succeeds, he better buy the Minnesota O-lineman dinner weekly, because i dont think it would be because of him.

either that or the Ravens OL is nowehre as good as the Vikings OL... :D

and if Tiki can fix his fumbling problem....also Portis had a fumbling problem as a rookie....they fixed that....

I don't see it as a problem....

If Birk is and stays healthy i love the O-Line, its the line you stake your money on, Chester isnt "Taylor" made for candied yams, matter of fact if you stepped on Chester, youd have to find a stick to clean out the waffle of your boot. . . . . .

no...the system is made for a back like him....that's why they compare him to Holmes and Westy...

he catches the ball well out the backfield...

this is where I will get my points...

Now what exactily were you smoking when you thought of these expectations?

And you take him in the 1st round next year and im sure everyone will be laughing.

I just took Taylor 6th overall in a keeper league. I think he's the second coming of Gayle Sayers.

Who went #1 overall Samkon Gado? HA

Ok i forfeit you win. I just moved Chester up my rankings, he shot past Curtis Martin, Juked left of Fred Taylor, ran over Tatum Bell, juked right of Thomas Jones, stiff armed Rueben Droughns, and found himself in my Top 15.

maybe i trade Ricky Williams for him . . . .

:D
