Chris Brown: Totally Unsubstantiated Rumor

I have never worked for the Titans and dont know anybody that does. I dont even know a guy that knows a guy whose cousin knows the dude who serves Floyd Reese his morning Starbucks. So, what I am about to report is totally unsubstantiated rumor with no reliable or credible source to confirm or deny. But this is the type of rumor that is rampant this time of year. But here it is:

Even in the face of denials by Floyd Reese that they are NOT shopping Chris Brown, talk is that they are currently in negotiations with the Jets to trade Brown for future considerations. Every sports radio station in Nashville is talking about it like its fact. I have no idea if there is anything to it. My belief is that it is toal bs and I would be SHOCKED if Brown was dealt to the Jets or anyone else at this point. If a team wants Brown, they will have to over-pay for an undoubtably talented, but profoundly injury prone rb. I am just reporting local rumor. Thoughts??

This is IMHO would be a total waste for a team that is going nowhere fast! The Jets have "capable" backs in Houston/Blaylock who can carry the rock this upcoming season. Playing in that division, I doubt they are thinking anything more than .500 at this point as a realistic obtainable goal. They should eat their lumps in the running game, alow those youngsters they drafted to mature a little, and snag a premier back in the draft! A guy like Adrian Peterson will most likely come out early, and if they have another horrible season they may just get a high enough pick to snag him!

Trades can no longer be for intangables like "future considerations" It must be at least for something like a conditional future draft pick.

Fantasy wise I hope a trade like this happens whether it is C. Brown, T. Jones or M. Turner. In 2 of those situations the Jets would get an immediate starter and the other teams- Bears, Titans would clear up their backfield. :D

One has to think, just from a due diligence standpoint, that the Jets will make plenty of phone calls regarding ANY potentially available RB. Problem is, the Jets new regime REALLY values their draft picks, and have little else to trade with. I have serious doubts regarding all of these trade rumors.

This is the sort of rumor that kinda makes sense. -maybe Pennington is on the table...hmmm. :D

Correct me if I'm wrong Jets homers. But I don't think any teams out there want to pickup a guy coming off 2 shoulder surgeries with a big contract like Pennington...

I think Houston looked fine in the couple games he started. If they could use a RBBC of Houston/Blaylock they could manage this season like I said above.

As a Fantasy Fan I don't want this! Another RBBC!!!!! :D:D

I would think he was kidding??? :D

my opinion is for them to trade for the lowest calibre RB that can at least run and make plays....

this way they have a RBBC for this season and bite the bullet unless Houston really comes on...

then draft a RB next year...

they aren't exactly in a 'win now' phase...even if it is a NY team..

I have heard this a few times on ESPN and it might even be closer to being done because there are new reports that Curtis Martin is going to retire seeing he has no cartilage in his knee left and its not getting better. Although I dont think it would matter that much to the Titans if they trade away Brown because he isnt a team player, if hes trying to get out of town because they drafted LenDale White and thinks his carries may diminish, thats no team player right there. Plus they weren't going to contend for the division anyways I think it gives LenDale a chance to shine and bring in Henry as a 3rd down back. Brown is injury prone mainly due to his running style (ala eddie george) they both have a straight up running style which leaves them open to be hit and take more blows. George could only take the beatings for so long, you could obviously see that George took a pounding each game which was why he wasnt as productive towads the end and im sure thats what will happen to Brown as well, but I wouldnt be suprised to see Brown in the Jets huddle this year because their backup is who?? Derrick Blaylock?? :D

I agree mostly because....

I don't know maybe coulde be, because that was on ESPN and has no cartlige but wouldn't matter anyway because he isn't a team player and Lendale White is there. Straight up running and styles and stuff, Eddie George took a beating because of Titans and Stuff, Travis Henry was a third down Back, wouldn't be surprised if Derrick Blaylock?? Search for RB goes on

BY TOM ROCK

The search for a running back to replace Curtis Martin grows broader with each day he sits on the physically-unable-to-perform list.

The Jets interest now extends to Artose Pinner of the Lions and Tatum Bell of the Broncos. Arizona running back Marcel Shipp had been mentioned, but yesterday his agent, Brad Blank, said he doubted such a deal was in the works.

Notes & quotes: Titans RB Chris Brown could become available for trade by the end of the week, according to a person familiar with the situation, but are the Jets interested? Brown has requested a trade from the Titans, and general manager Floyd Reese has yet to grant that request. As of yesterday, the Jets had not contacted the Titans about a trade, but the Jets' interest in finding a starting running back could be growing more urgent as Curtis Martin continues to sit on the physically unable to perform list after December knee surgery. According to the person, the biggest obstacle to Brown being traded could be the unimpressive training camp of Titans rookie RB LenDale White, who has suffered a toe injury and flu-like symptoms ...

• If Lee Suggs is traded, don't discount the New York Jets as his future home. With Curtis Martin still out after offseason knee surgery, the Jets might need a back.

Artose Pinner

Tatum Bell

Marcel Shipp

Why would the Jets trade for Brown? Isn't he in the last year of his contract? What would make more sense would be for the Jets to trade Coles for Thomas Jones who still has 3 years (I think that is right) on his contract. Then they have their starting RB, and would still be able to use their 1st round pick on a new WR or possilby Brady Quinn.

it wouldn't make sense since thomas jones is just not that good a player. I'd rather have turner or brown if I were them.

With the Benson shoulder injury, T Jones is no longer considered a trade option by the Bears, according to various reports coming out of Chicago.

However, I think the Bears would be willing to deal Artose Pinner Adrian Peterson and supposedly the Jets have already expressed an interest in him.

I don't think the Jets new Front Office is into trading away high draft picks (Rovers can confirm my belief), so I'd be surprised to see them trade for any RB who would command a Day 1 pick.

EDIT:

Thanks Big John!
