Shaun Alexander jinxed?

I was considering the last several RBs who won the rushing title. Take a look at their production in the year following the season they won the crown:

2004 Champion -- Curtis Martin

2004 -- 1,697 yds. and 12 TDs

2005 -- 735 yds. and 5 TDs

2003 Champion -- Jamal Lewis

2003 -- 2066 yds. and 14 TDs

2004 -- 1006 yds. and 7 TDs

2002 Champion -- Ricky Williams

2002 -- 1853 yds. and 16 TDs

2003 -- 1372 yds. and 9 TDs

All of them dropped a minimum of 500 yards rushing and scored six fewer TDs. The Madden thing is overplayed. You can't argue with the stats though. Has Alexander peaked like the last three rushing champs?

Also keep in mind that C-Mart beat Alexander by ONE yard in '04 and Alexander roared back with 1880 yds the following season.

It's possible that his knees give out, though, as he'll be 29 at the end of the month and has over 1,700 carries. Losing Hutchinson won't help, either.

Losing Hutch will be major.

That being said, as long as Walter Jones is there they will have running success whether it be by Alexander or someone else.

Didn't LT get paid a couple years ago. It didn't seem to effect his play.

I'm just saying I don't think he's the lock that every one else does. I have him as interchangeable with Tiki and Portis. Not a bad back to have but I wouldn't touch him in the 1 or 2 spot.

Larry Johnson is the 1 of the big 3 I worry about. he lost his bread and butter in Roaf and he has a new coach who is gonna have a much more predictable offense.

Alexander got paid on top of everything else. He is very rapidly falling out of my tier 1

:D Someone hurry help Kid Cid, he's lost it. Taking SA out of the Top Tier is lunacy! He'll be a monster again. His schedule is ridiculous. In my upcoming draft the guy who has the #1 pick said he's taking LT. I was overjoyed as that guarantees me LJ or SA at the #3 both I'd take over LT.

His schedule makes it impossible you take him out of tier 1. as a matter of fact, his schedule guarentees success. only injury can stop Alexander this year.

Exactly!!

Roaf retired to avoid training camp but will suddenly have a change of heart right before the regular season starts and training camp ends. Maybe he'll be in time for a little last preseason game warm up.

Fuel to the fire:

2000 Champion -- Edgerrin James

2000 - 1709 yds and 13 TDs

2001 - 662 yds and 3 TDs

That's 4 of the last 5 rushing champions to suffer a big collapse in the year following their title.

Add to this the fact that there has not been a RB on a losing superbowl team who rushed for more than 1,000 yds the year after the superbowl in the last 5 years....and only 2 superbowl losing RBs breaking 1,000 yds rushing in the last 10 years the year after the superbowl.

See Irish's post. That is exactly what's going on. Clearly you missed the Carl Peterson interview where he stated that he was giving Willie a free pass at camp, he is welcome back at anytime. Well over half the team has called him and he hasn't called ANYONE back, yet Peterson and Edwards both stated they knew where he was, what he was doing and they were respecting his decisions. Willie ONLY fake retired to avoid traning camp(where he got hurt last year BTW), the fines and to spend more time with his family. Willie PROMISED Shields and the organization that he would be back, WILL and Wille had a mutual agreement, they would only come back if the other would. Have you seen Will change his mind since Willie has? Nope, that's cause deep down everyone in this org knows he's coming back :D Rip me all you want for it, if it doesn't happen then I'll be the first to admit that I'm wrong.

Oh and BTW he hasn't filed for retirement with the National Football League, he merely wrote a letter to the org stating as such. And we don't even really know that's what the letter said, it might have said, I don't want to be in camp, I want to do such and such during that time, listed his reasons for it and they all spoke and gave him a pass. There is a mutal repect there from Roaf and the Chiefs. You may think I'm full of it, but I still think he's coming back :D

Good info here. I wouldnt pay it much attention, but with that MADDEN jinx. You can take it how u want. But if you on the Madden cover you'll never be drafted by me. Until its broke. Im not going to get caught winning up until midseason and have my hopes of a championship broken.

he was a rookie in 2001 and is only 26 I think......he still has one more payday coming up...

Alexander is 29 and as a RB, his career is winding down...

True but also. I think those carries are starting to catch up with LT as well.

But Richardson will not be back. That is what makes me go..hmmmm. Even if Roaf is back how many games will he play?
