Bell must block well and keep the football Fri, 11 Aug 2006 06:21:55 -0700 Mike Klis, of the Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos rookie RB Mike Bell, the team's current starting running back, has been given a list of priorities - no one ranked above the other. "The first thing he's got to do is hang on to the ball," Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan said. "We've already seen what he can do running the ball. But the first thing we want to see is, can he pick up the blitz?" Shanahan then paused and smiled at what he just said. "He's got two first things that he has to do," Shanahan said. "My main concern is doing the right thing by protecting Jake (QB Plummer) and holding on to the ball," Bell said. "Those are the two necessities. Protect, protect, protect and holding on to the ball. After that, it's just running hard." Ravens | McNair excited and nervous about debut Fri, 11 Aug 2006 05:59:21 -0700 Jamison Hensley, of the Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens QB Steve McNair will experience something he has never faced in his decorated 12-year career Friday, Aug. 11, when he takes the field as a member of a team other than the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans. Only scheduled to play the first quarter, McNair understands his first impression has to be made quickly and succinctly. "I'm very excited and I'm a little nervous," said McNair, who was acquired in a trade with the Titans two months ago. "At the same time, I've been doing this for a while. I think after the first play, things will settle down and I will be back to normal." "He just brings a certain calm to the offense," head coach Brian Billick said. "He exudes confidence, and everyone can feel it." The challenge for McNair is leading an offense he has yet to fully master.
