Menudo
#1. Duce Staley appears to be finished. He looked like his feet were in quicksand. He was EXTREMELY slow getting to the hole. I really think that he ends up being released. #2. Anthony Smith, 2nd round FS out of Syracuse, who has been the biggest standout in camp, had a tremendous game with 2 interceptions and some solid tackles. #3. Ben Roethlisberger looked exactly as he did prior to the accident. Cowher told him to try to avoid doing too much, but, his insticts took over, and he was scrambling to create opening, and took a sack, which I feel was a good thing. #4. Ryan Clark led the team in tackles, and appears to be a solid tackler, but, the 3rd down defense was atrocious, including Clark & Tyrone Carter, who are said to be competing for the starting position. If Anthony Smith continues his impressive play, he might end up snagging the job, though I doubt it, as Polamalu didn't even start as a rookie, and Cowher said it is a difficult spot on this defense for a rookie to come in and immediately pick it up. Smith is making it interesting though. #5. The first offensive line played decent, as did Parker in their brief playing time. The 2nd offensive line was awful, which is a cause for concern. A lot of young guys with upside, but, they get a failing grade from me in this game. #6. Jeff Reed is a very good kicker, which is nice to have. He missed a 55 yarder to the left, but he had enough leg on it. His 48 yarder was drilled and would have been good from 55+. #7. I was very impressed with Santonio Holmes and Willie Reid. Very quick, and both appear to have good hands. Since coming to camp, Holmes has done nothing but good things, including staying after practice and working with Hines Ward. Nate Washington has some potential, but did drop a couple of balls, as did Quincy Morgan. Overall, I'm happy with the depth of our receiving corps. #8. Larry Foote played tremendously in his short time out there. Rien Wallace, Richard Siegler, and Andre Frazier also played well on the 2nd team defense. #9. Brett Keisel played very well in his short time. He is a much better athlete than Kimo, and will be impressive on the pass rush. I do worry about his run defense, as Kimo was very stout at taking up lineman and allowing the LB's to make their plays. In his first game though, Keisel looked very good. #10. Cedric Humes was a lot faster than I expected. He had some wheels on the late game screen pass. Once again, I think if he plays well, Duce Staley will be sent packing. #11. Barr, the punter brought in was very solid, but, will probably not be able to beat out the veteran Chris Gardocki. #12. Was not impressed with Shane Boyd. He has a cannon of an arm, but lacks touch. Omar Jacobs has a strange throwing motion, but, performed decently in his first action. Word out of camp is that he is struggling to pick up the offense, but, I still expect him to beat out Boyd for the #3 QB job. Batch looked well in his brief time. Overall, there were several ugly things and some good things that came out of this game, which is to be expected. On the other side of the ball, I think the Cardinals passing game is going to live up to the hype if Warner can stay healthy and/or Leinhart comes in and picks things up quickly. I think Edge might be in for a dissappointing season. He is an extremely talented back, so he will still be solid, but, that O-Line did not look good on run blocking, even when it was their first team against the Steelers 2nd. DeezNuts
Growing up 30 minutes from Pittsburgh and hating the Steelers I can tell you these Steelers fans never change... the initial write-up is detailed but not as much as it is a waste of time... here's your 06/07 summary 1) No solid running game 2) Number 1 will put more pressure on Rothlishelmet to make faster decisions (more room for error) 3) No WR to stretch the field (Holmes isn't the answer) 4) Bengals will be better 5) Ravens will be much better 6) Loss of D-Linemann will hurt all ready aging defense 7) Secondary is still the weak 8) For the last 5 years one of the two teams from the previous year's Suberbowl has failed to make the playoffs the following year... and Seattle looks good. Steelers go 8-8 in 2006/07 on the outside looking in.

Every year you predict the Steelers demise, then, when the Steelers prove you wrong time and time again, you are no where to be found to admit that you were wrong. I've got $100 that the Steelers finish above .500, you want to take the bet ?
