Am I the only one not drinking the kool-aid

Chester Taylor has been compared to Lamont Jordan-a back-up who goes to a new team to become a starter and put up solid numbers as a starter. I remember LJ2 having big games when he started for injured C. Martin, but I don't recall Taylor ever having a big game. Not in 2005 anyway. Am I wrong not to drink the kool-aid?

I could be wrong-I'm a noob and a woman for god's sake, so I fully expect to be blasted by this board, and I am willing to take the ridicule. That's how you learn I guess. Call me an idiot-I can take it.

Hey....give me an idea of how you think he'll do. How many rushing yards, receptions/reception yards and total TD's do you think he'll have? I tell you how I think he'll do.

The simple fact that he's going to get his touches is the reason why people are high on him...IMO.

In '04 he popped off a coupla nice games in a row - http://www.pro-football-reference.com/game...ylCh01.htm#2002 - but as with most of these situations, its based more on potential; Taylor is proven without being beat up and has produced in a limited role; he has good size and speed and the thought process is that he should be able to transition from productive backup to productive starter quite easily.

If you aren't sold on him, you aren't sold on him - it has nothing to do with drinking the Kool-Aid, if you search there has been plenty of debate on Taylor around here. Personally, I don't trust that Childress will actually run a smash-mouth offense, thus limiting Taylor's value somewhat. But a starting Rb is a starting Rb.

Hey, some of our most respected members here are women - and Squeegiebo is a woman too, don't downgrade yourself due to gender.

But it WOULD be nice if you'd make me a sammich and grab me a beer before starting the laundry. :D

He's had some fairly big games. In 2004:

12/05 vs. the Bengals: 23 rushes for 139 yards and 1 TD + 3 receptions for 25 yards

12/12 vs. the Giants: 25 rushes for 104 yards + 4 receptions for 27 yards

He's had several other good but not outstanding games over the past 2 years. I think he's shown himself to be a decent back who is an excellent pass-catcher. Is he being overrated? Possibly, but he's probably shown about as much as LaMont Jordan had with his opportunities prior to landing a starting gig. Then again, it was a given that Oakland's starting RB job was all LaMont's going into last season, where Minnesota hasn't shown much of a commitment to the run under Tice. The Vikings have usually ended up a RBBC hell, and Taylor still has guys like Mewelde Moore and Faison to contend with for carries. For those reason I wouldn't touch him anywhere near the early rounds of a draft.

Well, good thing Taylor wasnt' in Minny last year. :D

Sorry, still in baseball mode and forgot that the Vikes finally did what was long overdue. My apologies. :D

Edit: Still though, I think Moore has shown as much as Taylor as has to be considered a legitimate threat to steal carries (and receptions) from Taylor, don't you think?

OK....I can see the guy rushing for as much as 900 yards and getting another 50 receptions for maybe 500 yards....so his ceiling is 1,400 with about 8 scores.

Probably more like 1,200 and 6 this year and they should use him in a way that keeps him healthy and not get all beat up. There will be games that he's getting 25+ touches and he'll win a few games for you this year.

Team him up with a top 5 RB on your squad, and you should be OK.

My husband fetches me the beer and does our laundry-at least doing the laundry part is true. I am the major beer drinker in our family-Deschutes Brewery Mirror Pond Pale Ale is my beverage of choice-but I do have to get my own beer. Tonight we are out of beer-my husband didn't get to Costco today-not happy he played 27 holes of golf instead. So, I have to resort to drinking martinis tonight. And, I much prefer mowing the lawn over doing laundry.

I do agree there probably is not an RBBC threat in MN unless Chester tanks, which this year automatically moves Mr. Taylor up the rankings. Healthy RB's who aren't in an RBBC potential offense are at a premium. There seems to be much slimmer pickin's for quality RB's this year. I hope I get one of the top three in my drafts this year. Otherwise I'm taking Peyton 1.04 if available-just kidding.

1000 isn't that hard to get; I figure Hutchinson should be able to clear out plenty of room against the Lions and Pack all by his lonesome.

But like I said, I just don't trust Childress. 1200 and 6 total sounds pretty close to right IMO.

I'll rehash on some previous points I've made quickly...well, hopefully this is quick...

and as was said, if you aren't sold, you're not sold....there are plenty of players I am not sold on...but I usually have pretty good reasons...

1. the Ravens OL is/was mediocre at best and even when he got a chance last year, it wasn't impressive. His style is comparable to Brian Westbrook with likely better running ability.

2. This carries over from 1., the OL he has is outstanding...it was very good, now it is outstanding. Tony Richardson and Hutchinson will put this teams blocking ability in elite status IMO...

3. Childress wants to use the WCO where the RB catches alot. The only drawback to this is Richardson is obviously going to be a factor in this offense. Childress is running a more run oriented version of the WCO, while still passing to the RB's plenty.

4. Brad Johnson is notorious for dumping the ball off to RB's. If you follow every season he was the starting QB, you'll find he threw the ball plenty to his RB's in his career as a starting QB. Last year may have been the exception, but he played half the season.

5. You can get him late in the 2nd round or later. I see him performing better than most of the 2nd round RB's. His value in a PPR league is pretty nice especially at the spot you can draft him.

edit: also, there isn't a RBBC in Minny...Richardson will get some GL carries and maybe some short yardage work at times...but I prefer this....(not the GL work...but the short yardage work, obviously)...

Yeah! She could "flash" while you're eating too. :D

I think you are realizing the difference between realistic NFL production reality and what the pro team's trying to sell the fans to get them to buy tickets. This is actually a GOOD THING girlfriend :D ! What makes him a fantasy factor is the fact he will be getting lots of touches in that, or ANY offence. That makes him also an attractive fantasy comodity, especially considering the number of RBBC situations there are.

You are just filtering the information of real life BS and Fantasy value and you realize, in your own opinion, that he might not be all that the Vikes are trying to play him up as. New season, new hopes and all that crap, ya know?!?! :D

Just because you aren't spooning the NFL team's promises, hopes and dreams like vanilla pudding doesn't mean that you should discpount the guys fantasy value. There is potentially a lot of value to be had or stolen at the right spot in the draft for Taylor.

Us fantasy geeks, especially "noobs" tend to blur the line between real football and fantasy football to often when in reality they are VERY different realities. :D

You're drinking Kool-Aid? Is that because your significant other forgot his to-do list again?

My husband didn't fulfill his to-do list today, and now is off playing in a game board night with some geeks. The only board game I will play with him is Strato-matic football. Actually he's a pretty cool guy. He does help with the cleaning and loves to cook, but is also good with fixin' stuff around the house. Your dream hubby, really. I'm just finishing my third martini so I'd be off to bed-I'm out.

This thread may now need to go to the Non-Football forum.

I thought Chester showed some great cuts, he's going to occationally gash teams with em. The plays just didn't work out against Oak. Watch the line play and you'll see several guys like Birk breaking out to the second level setting up TD-like runs.. they just didn't work out. Chester will be fine if he can stay healthy.

honestly...the playcalling was about as vanilla as pre-season can get...
