CD6405
That's not true at all. Look back to 2003... Smith: 88 rec, 1110 yds, 7 TDs Muhammad: 54 rec, 837 yds, 3 TDS Jake threw at lot of passes to Muhammad. As long as he has a decent #2 on the field, Delhomme will make use of him. Maybe in 2003 yes, but his tunnel vision has gotten worse every year. it was 1:3 passes to Muhammad in 2004, and then almost 1:2 passes to Smith last year. This year Delhomme may never throw a pass to a 2nd WR....dum dum dum...
PantherDave
Will Smitty have a 05 season again-No Why? This is now a very balanced Offense with three more quality WR in Key, Carter and Colbert. The RB are solid and have very nice depth. This offense can attack in many different ways this year and with the Defense they have this year..well they will be playing from a short feild. Smith does not have to have the same kind of year for the Panthers to be a much more dominant team, and they are very balanced on both sides of the ball-Fox and Hurney didn't want Smith to have the same kind of year..because it does not put them where they want to be...Super Bowl. Smith will have a great year 1100-1200 9-11 TD's-good numbers for a WR.

That's because the only other healthy, productive receivers available have been a not-that-good Keary Colbert and an over-the-hill Ricky Proehl. If Delhomme has "tunnel vision", why the hell would the Panthers sign Keyshawn "Give Me the Damn Ball!" Johnson to a FOUR-YEAR-DEAL?
CD6405
I do say this though, if Delhomme returns to his 2003 form of passing the ball around and not trying to do too much, the Panthers WILL be in the Super Bowl. If he only focuses on 1 WR like the last 2 years though, they won't make it.

You are a moran-leave the Panthers break down to me...03 Smith was up and coming(first year as a starting WR)..04 hurt, so Mush stepped up, 05 Colbert was suppose to compliment and Gardner was a bust..Carter came on at the end of 05, so Smith had to tote the load...06 will be very balanced and the running attack will be more prominent. Avernus
You guys can't honestly say you watched all the games and say Delhomme wouldn't focus in on Smith and force a pass can you? Colbert couldn't catch anything last year and Drew Carter was still learning the offense... this year they added keyshawn...Colbert looks how he should have looked last year in camp so far and Carter looks very promising... if they didn't sign keyshawn, they would still have a very good 3 WR set....but heading into the offseason, they couldn't take that chance... now they are overstocked at WR...which is good... Bill Swerski
That's like saying, "Why didn't the Houston Texans draft Reggie Bush when they KNEW Domanick Davis' knee was torn to shreds" The answer to that question is that Bush isn't a good fit in Kubiak's one-cut-and-run zone-blocking scheme that also downplays the use of the halfback in the passing game. That and that they didn't want to over-pay for a back whose size may preclude him from carrying the ball 300-350 times a season. And I can tell you exactly why Carolina signed Keyshawn (and DeAngelo Williams, for that matter): BALANCE. Fox realizes that the Panthers need balance on offense (like they did in '03) to advance to the SB again. Steve Smith isn't going to get 130 receptions for 1,700 yds this season because Delhomme will make use of Keyshawn. Not to mention the fact that they have a backup plan for when DeShaun Foster goes down with another injury. It isn't going to be all about Steve Smith this season. tonorator
Until we see him and his hammy on the field again, who can predict what kind of season he'll have you may see him very soon. Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith practiced Tuesday morning for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury on the first day of training camp. Smith worked with the first team and caught numerous passes. He could get some playing time in Saturday night's preseason game at Jacksonville. Yes I can, and he had to-circunstances Jr., did you not pay any attention to the off season moves? NFL season is more than what goes on Sunday's. They were a work in progress all year long and still went 11-5 and made the NFC Championship game...then they did what every quality organazation does...make moves to get better. Smiths #'s will be down, but the Panthers will be a better team..speaking of tunnel vision, you've got a bad case of it and a low Panther IQ to boot.
