matt770
Haven't heard a peep about McGahee, supposedly a first round RB according to some rankings. Any Bills homers heard anything good about him? Prospects to improve over last year? Seems that a lot hinges on the QB situation and whether Evans will be a legit threat downfield. Will Jauron run the ball more than Mularkey did? Seem to remember Willis griping about not getting enough touches.
Avernus
his QB's and OL still suck...

This year, its been stated he will be involved more in the passing game, and he will not be taken out on 3rd downs. That said, expect more yards then last year, more TDs, and more catches. Ya his OL sucks, and the QB is iffy (cant say he sucks, as he hasnt had enough time to officially suck), but that is the same as last year. He is supposedly lighter, and has more of a burst of speed. I have him in a few leagues this year, and Im expecting more from him this year. Im guess at least 10 TDs.

Here is a great article about what's the deal with him lately: Link I picked him in one of my new keeper leagues and I have just become his biggest fan. Good stuff. I pick last in my keeper league tomorrow and I'm hoping he's there. Otherwise it's roll the dice on KJ or Chester. Westbrook will likely be there but I don't trust his health. smrt
With all that said, would you take McGahee in the second round over a first tier WR? Edited August 18, 2006 by smrt

The Wolf
With all that said, would you take McGahee in the second round over a first tier WR? Where in the second round? Mid to late (if he lasts that long) in a snake draft? If so, I'd say that it has to be considered, especially if a 1st tier WR can be had on the way back. smrt
probably not... That's why the tier system is there to use I guess. It's just tough to pass on a RB that won't split carries with anyone this year.

So with that second round pick I am guessing that Holt or TO will still be there. If McGahee is on the board at that second pick it's going to be tough to resist the temptation to take him. It's just tough to pass on a RB that won't split carries with anyone this year. exactly...I don't rank, I couple RB's with like situations and talent... I can rank a 1-10 and all of that....but I feel better about grouping backs with no actual number, rather by how I feel about that player at that particular moment... I've seen mock drafts last year where I didn't like most of the RB's in the entire 1st round...even at last year... I didn't like Jamal, Mcgahee or DD...just to name a few..and these guys were all in the top 12...there were at least 4 others I didn't like either... So you're saying instead of numerical ranking you group and pick the guys you like out of the group/tier? Who's projected in the first round this year that you'll stay away from? Avernus
So you're saying instead of numerical ranking you group and pick the guys you like out of the group/tier? Who's projected in the first round this year that you'll stay away from? I like most of the backs this year actually... Jordan his slipped IMO as he won't see as many dumpoffs.....Edge has slipped... I had Edge in the top 5 last year and Jordan was 8th in my top 10.....I drafted both of them.... I don't like SJax as much as Caddy and RBrown....actually, they all worry me in their own way.... Portis worries me as does Tiki because jacobs looks as good as I expected him to be last season....he's running much quicker... I don't have anyone early that I am staying away from....because there is no Mcgahee, JJ, DD, Jamal or Dillon in the top 10...I don't like any of these guys fantasy-wise....they are ranked this year where I had them last year....except JJ was closer to 20th...as was DD... so most of the players I plan to avoid are outside the huddles top 10 rankings anyways... giantsfan
I like McGahee. IMO I would take him over a top WR in round 2. I have the 7th and 12th picks in my draft and plan on taking Brown at 7 over Jordan, and am deciding between Caddy, Bush, and McGahee at 12 if all are there (Jackson is the only top RB who is a keeper). We get .5 per catch which makes it even tougher. I think I'd take Caddy first of the 3 but I expect him along with Rudi and Jordan to be gone by 12. So my tough choice is Bush or McGahee in a .5 per catch league. That is SO tough. I have gone back and forth on that choice. Right now I edge towards Bush because of the .5 per catch, but I could still go McGahee. My point is I'm not even thinking WR there. I am thinking Caddy, Bush/McGahee all the way. That would make him any diffrent from who? That has been his knock around Buffalo....Can break off the long run? It seems like he can do. Something we never even had a chance to see last year with Mularky running the offense. Edited August 19, 2006 by hause62

I don't think he's going to be able to get a consistent 4-6 yards like a lot of RBs can. He's either gonna have really bad games or a big game. I think he will be very inconsistent. IIRC, he had one of the strongest 2nd halves in a long time. Then Bledsoe left. Now you cant tell me it was all because of him leaving that McGahee fell off a bit last year. McGahee will be a very productive RB for many years to come. If he got 1300 last year behind that crappy line, trust me, he will be just fine this year with a better line (or at l;east the same), and a new coaching staff that doesnt want to not get him the ball. He was with in .2 to .4 yards away from average. In fact he was ranked 10th overall in last years rushing stats. Do you see the new coaching staff giving him the ball in the red zone? That's what killed his fantasy value last year. I'm sure he'll be available in the second round for me to take as I have the 9th pick in a 12 team serpentine. Just a little nervous since I drafted him last year as well and we know how that turned out early.

I feel they are going to feed him the rock....remember Anthony Thomas the years Jauron coached Chicago? McGahee has more talent and speed that he did. I really feel he will have a very good season...but of course that is my opinion. And you know what they say about opinions...LOL Edited August 19, 2006 by hause62
