Sam
We're changing over to a keeper league this year and we're trying to iron out all the rules. The rules we've come up with so far are as follows. - No players will be kept this year. We won't name keepers until next year (probably in late July or early August). - Up to 3 players can be kept. You don't have to keep any if you don't want to. - Only 1 player per position can be kept. - A player can be kept up to 3 years. - You lose your pick in the round you drafted your keeper the year before. After the first year you will lose your pick in the next round up the following year. For example: I draft Portis in the 6th rd his rookie year. I decide to keep him the following year..i would lose a pick in the 6th rd (year 1). the following year i decide to keep Portis agian. I would lose my pick in the 5th rd (year 2). I keep Portis for his final year i lose my 4th rd pick (3rd and final year for this player). after the 3rd and final year that player either goes back in the FA pool or you can trade him to another owner. How would you handle the situation where Team A trades Portis to Team B after his first year as a keeper. Should Team B have to designate Portis as one of his keepers (I wouldn't think so)? How would we determine what rounds Team A and Team B lose their draft picks for the players traded? I'd appreciate suggestions on how to handle this. Also let me know if you see any flaws in our rules...or rules you would suggest adding. Thanks!
The Wolf
IF Team B wants to keep Portis, the same rules should apply; it matters not what team Portis is now on. he was still drafted in the 6th round originally and that (or his progression to rounds 5 or 4) have to apply. The same rules apply to the player(s) Team A is receiving, if kept. Maybe I am missing something but it seems to me that this is a fairly simple case. What do you do if someone keeps a player picked up on waivers? Suppose this was 2005 and someone grabbed Willie Parker on waivers and now wants to keep him. How do you handle that? In a league I'm in we use the bottom mark of 10th round for all undrafted/WW pickups during the year.

Yeah after thinking about this more you're right. I'm a little slow this morning. And we would use the same rules as Hat Trick uses for undrafted/WW pick ups. Edit: Would Team B be able to keep Portis for 3 more years or only for the 2 remaining years? Edited August 22, 2006 by Sam
