Avernus
I don't think the OL is even that bad...Caronlina has a top 3 DL in the league... he looked elusive and physical, but sometimes RB's get shut down....remember Tomlinson against Philly last year? and once Culpepper started being able to hit his WR's downfield more...Brown wasn't taking as many negative runs... the only problem I have is the amount of carries he is apparently going to split. They made it sound as if he's going to be a little more than just "spelled"... here's his schedule and I will put the matchups that scare me in bold... at Pittsburgh Steelers BUFFALO BILLS TENNESSEE TITANS at Houston Texans at New England Patriots at New York Jets GREEN BAY PACKERS at Chicago Bears KANSAS CITY CHIEFS MINNESOTA VIKINGS at Detroit Lions JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS at Buffalo Bills NEW YORK JETS at Indianapolis Colts (wk 17, unlikely fantasy implications) Edited August 25, 2006 by Avernus

nogohawk
I have Caddy in a 1 keeper/redraft league and with my draft position will likely be looking at one of the following - Portis, Edge, Rudi, Brown or McGahee. It all depends on teams which didn't keep a player which are drafting in front of me. I would be happy to take any one of these in a matchup with Caddy for my backfield. But if I had to rank them it would be ... Brown, Edge, Rudi, Portis, McGahee Just my
Footballjoe
IMO after the top 3 there are 5-6 that are rated fairly close, just depends on who you like. I think someone had mentioned this. Also, I read where the Dolphins were shuffling the O line around alot last night to see who they like. Doing this against the panthers D, well ............... YoungBob
My guess is if he had 10 carries for 50+ yards, this wouldn't even be posted. But I don't think he can be overrated when he goes between 5 and 12 every draft. Everyone after the Big 3 is so close now with the Portis injury that anyone can be taken in the 4th - 12th hole and not be considered a bad pick. I got Ronnie with the 10th pick in a 14 team league last night...and was thrilled he fell to me.
Fantasy Jesus
Ronnie's going to be just fine. I was impressed by the Panthers Dline last night. Big & quick. Coming into his second year I have no doubt in my mind that Hudson Houck will whip the Oline into shape. He's done it everywhere else he's been. giantsfan
This has turned out to be a good thread with a lot of good points. The point about Ronnie being up there when compared to the other RB's in that area is a great one. Personally I think of all the second level backs Edge is being totally disregarded unfairly. Last I checked on a worse team Emmitt 2 years ago had 900 + rushing yards and 9 TD's. Maybe I'm wrong but if he can do that at 80 I can certainly see 1200 and 12 from Edge. Plus he'll catch 40 + as well. So I would put Edge 5. I am really hoping he falls to me at 7 in a .5 per catch league. After that I can see how all these guys are so close and it is truly personal preference. That makes sense to me. What doesn't is you see so many people on here not saying I took Brown because of the above rather saying Brown will be dominant. Or rush for 2000 yards. Or be better than the big 3. THAT is where I think it has gone too far with him IMO. Edited August 25, 2006 by giantsfan
hause62
I have said this in the past and I will say it again. With Beanie Anderson starting at the guard postion on the Miami offensive line. He will give up sacks and tackles in the back field to quicker defensive tackles. In fact last night I witness him get beat for a tackle in the back field. ROCKNE
I would take Take him over everyone now except the top 4, so yes I believe his is 5 if portis were healthy then he would be 6th. Jackson is great but injury prone, AZ has issues, Caddy doesn't have a good QB, Rudi and McGahee are a close second, I would probably go Brown, Jackson, Rudi, Edge, Caddy, McGahee I agree with this , Brown should be at #5. He played enough last tear to show he can do the job. Jackson is already dinged and I don't think he'll make it through the season. Just a huch. Edge really scares me. He's got his big fat contract and is playing on a team that doesn't have near the surrounding cast he had in Indy. Rudy is plain boring, a safe pick however. Caddy could be huge but has the injury status to deal with. McGahee is on a poor team. With Brown you may be taking a bit of a chance but the results couldbe huge. Worst case scenario is he should be as good as any of these other backs.

samurai30
Good point. People seems to talk about durability issues with other backs..when ronnie brown should be put into that category too. He too was dinged up last year...even with a light work load. If he now gets the bulk of the carriers...who knows what may happen...
Scooby
Well, the pre-season does give us a taste of how the o-line is meshing, and Miami's doesn't bode well with me. Brown downgraded a bit in my opinion, in favor of Rudi and even Caddy.
