Jackass
Dayne is on the waiver wire in my league. I have an extra roster spot. Is he worth stashing on the bench?
Ruffian
IMHO yes. Mike and Tatum Bell are both talented RBs but I think Dayne is the vulture for either.
giantsfan
No. I don't see a role for him. He is not a short yardage back trust me I know as a Giants fan. I honestly think they'll try MBell at the GL early to see how he does. If he doesn't do well then who knows.

TecmoBeast
i think he's worth a stash for the end of the season, rookies hit the wall usually
Savage Beatings
I'd hold off for a little bit longer to see how his turf toe affects him for the rest of the pre-season. That's the biggest concern I would have about Dayne (not so much what his role would be). If completely healthy, I think they will get Dayne some significant touches throughout the season. giantsfan
well, that's what i'm thinking. if mikey doesn't do well at the GL, Dayne may get a shot for some TD's. He may but that is a huge question mark. To me right now Dayne has zero role IMO. MBell will be the main guy with TBell spelling him for 8 or so carries a game. NOW this is Den and Shanny so Dayne could get a role at some point, but for now I wouldn't expect a thing from him. admtahoe
When this guy came out of college he was the next "superstar" that didn't pan out. We've all heard hundreds of reason why he didn't do it. He went to Denver and still has not been spectacular. Sure he may steal some Goal Line Carries, but IMO this guy is wasted talent. He had such high hopes, it is ashame that he never got his act together.
Bronco Billy
If you believe in handcuffing your top RBs, and you have M Bell on your roster, he's worth a WW pickup. What's the worst thing that can happen? You find out that he isn't going to get time (or more unlikely he doesn't make DEN's roster) and you cut him for another WW pickup? If M Bell isn't on your roster - unless M Bell gets hurt tonight (knock on wood) - I really don't see any reason for having Dayne on it, though. Jackass
i know this isn't the most exciting topic but has anyone heard rumors that Dayne might be traded, possibly by the end of the day.
muck
Have heard no rumors about Dayne here in KC (fwiw), but after seeing Cedric Cobbs' statline from last night, I'm wondering if Dayne won't get cut outright. And, if he does, man, that's some drop from the #1 RB to cut since the start of camp... Wow.

Haven't heard that rumor anywhere in the DEN media today. I do know that Cobbs was (and most likely is) being quietly shopped.
policyvote
Uh, Ron Dayne sucks. He's a 250 lb finesse back with no speed. End of story. Peace policy

Good info as always Billy. After seeing Cedric Cobb's stat line last night I was wondering if he was in line to replace Dayne as the #2 back, which would likely mean that Dayne would be traded or released before the end of preseason. But if Denver is looking to move Cobbs, showcasing him in preseason makes sense - & puts his stat line from last night in better perspective. I try to take preseason stats with a grain of salt, but given the value that relatively unknown Denver backup RBs have had over the past several seasons, its hard not to overanalyze things. Thanks for your keen insight into the situation.
Giants56
No. I don't see a role for him. He is not a short yardage back trust me I know as a Giants fan. I honestly think they'll try MBell at the GL early to see how he does. If he doesn't do well then who knows. Ding Ding Ding. I guess only us Giants fan realize he's not a power back. He's not Jerome Bettis, he doesn't run over people and isn't a good short yardage runner. I think his only value is if one of the Bells go down. Turf Smurf
Haven't heard that rumor anywhere in the DEN media today. I do know that Cobbs was (and most likely is) being quietly shopped. I have heard the same. And contrary to what most think, Dayne isn't the same back he was on the east coast (at least IMO). Assuming Cobbs is sold, what happens when Tatum gets hurt by game 4 (and again contrary to most, he will have been seeing 30-35% of the carries). I'm not willing to take a flier on him, but I wouldn't be at all suprized if he played a role during the second half of the season.

Oh he's definitely in better shape than he was with the Giants and looked good at times last year. And I think if a Bell gets injured he will contribute, he's just not the type of guy who is going to be a goal line specialist.
