Carolina's WLB position

Recommended Posts

The following is from Len Pasquarelli's Tip Sheet, on ESPN.com:

The knee injury suffered by Carolina weakside linebacker Na'il Diggs in Thursday night's preseason game isn't believed to involve his anterior cruciate ligament. But if the injury sidelines Diggs for even a few weeks, it could have an impact on the fate of fellow weakside 'backer Keith Adams on the roster. Signed by the Panthers as a free agent, after the longtime special teams ace became a starter in Philadelphia last season, Adams has been a major disappointment to the Carolina coaches.

There was a pretty good chance, before Diggs' knee injury, that Adams would not make the roster. There was supposed to have been competition between the two for the starting weakside job that became vacant when Will Witherspoon departed to St. Louis in free agency, but it wasn't long into camp that Diggs claimed the No. 1 spot. On the flip side, the Panthers' coaches are thrilled by the preseason performance of second-year veteran Adam Seward, a fifth-round draft pick in 2005 who was limited by injuries to just five appearances as a rookie.

I've been saying for a while that Seward will be Witherspoon's replacement. Diggs has had knee injuries before and Adams just isn't starting-quality.

Luckily I have Seward in most of my leagues. :D

Do you think Seward is a viable option for FF though? I dont know ANYTHING about IDP, especially how they rate against other IDPs in FF, so i'm merely asking so I can understand a little better.

It seems to me like there could better options out there on other teams for fantasy points, or is he a sleeper to you?

Thanks.

This is the kind of question I see to see more and more in this forum. I don't mean any offense by that, btw -- just that it seems the increasing popularity of IDP FF doesn't mean people play similar formats.

Most IDP leagues I hear about on this board seem to only require a handful of IDPs, mixed in with a lot more offensive players. Therefore, you only see the top 10 or 15 players at each position get drafted. So, in that format, no, Adam Seward wouldn't really be a "sleeper."

In the more comprehensive IDP dynasty leagues a lot of Huddlers play in, like Fusion, the DW leagues, and GMX, Seward is a very nice player to have stashed on the taxi squad. :D

i appreciate your reply. I truly know nothing about IDP, and not just in the FF world. So I joined a few leagues this year, just to learn. One league has 2 IDP players and a DEF and the other has about 7 IDP and no DEF...that one really has me messed up..but I learned most of the Huddle top projections were still avail in the FA after the draft. it seems people go with their homer teams IDPs. obviously that wouldn't happen in a BoTH league, but hey, at least i'm learning...

right? :D

Me too but more as Morgan's replecement if he went down, a longshot. I thought Anderson, though a rookie, had a better shot at Will.

The article said they like Seward, but do they like him at WLB?

Well, that whole blurb on Carolina LBs was about the WLB position, specifically. So, yeah, I'd say he's in the mix there. Anderson is, too, of course.

And Seward is almost certainly the guy to stash away if you're a Dan Morgan owner.

Yeah, I don't have Morgan but Seward should see the field somewhere soon.

Dan Morgan may not start. He has I have heard eith 4 or 5 concussions. How does everyone thnk this will shake out? Seward, Draft at middle? Davis at MLB and Seward at SLB if Morgan retires?

the one thing that wont happen is you wont see DAVIS at MLB, and I would assume Seward is the MLB until Morgan comes back(unless he totaly F's up)

Here's my question: who started at WLB against the Falcons, and who replaced Morgan at MLB??

The stats don't necessarily tell the whole story. Seward had 6 solos & 1 assist, while Chris Draft (Morgan's backup last year) had 4 solos and 2 assists.

Guys who didn't show up on the stat sheet: Keith Adams, Na'il Diggs, Vinny Ciurciu (1 assist).

All that tells me Seward started at WLB, like I thought he might, and Draft came in to replace Morgan...but I would REALLY like some homer input here.

As Keg said-Draft started at WLB, Morgan at MLB and Davis at SLB. This may change this week, as I expect Draft to get the start at MLB and if Diggs returns he'll get the start at WLB, if not Seward most likely will slide to WLB. I still feel that Anderson may take over by week 8 or 9 at WLB.

Really. Draft did do well at the end of last season, but I would think Seward would be the starter and Draft again at WLB until Anderson is ready. I'm not a homer, but that is how I see it based on Sewards performances in the PS and last week.

I could be wrong of course. :D

Adams was cut a while back. Isn't he in Miami now.

From what I gleaned today, it will be Seward at MLB and Diggs if he's ready at WLB, if not Draft again at WLB.

Diggs was out a lot last year for the Packers. I'm looking forward to when Anderson plays. From what I have heard they like him a lot down there.
