Keeper League Draft Order

Prior to last year's draft our league decided to switch to a keeper league where you get to/have to keep two players from your prior years team and draft the rest of the team. We had no discussions at the time regarding draft order.

Now there is a move afoot to set draft order based upon the results of prior year. In all previous drafts we have done a random drawing to select draft order with a standard 1-12 first round 12 - 1 second round and so on.

Without getting into arguments over "change the rules or not for this draft" - I want to know how you guys generally structure draft order in a league where you keep a limited number of players.

Suggestions that have been made:

1. Leave it as is with a random order.

2. Use reverse order from prior year results (worst team picks first SB champ last).

3. NBA Lottery system where worst team gets 12 balls and SB champ one.

Thoughts, suggestions and complaints are welcome.

Thanks!

In the league I run, we use what amounts to a random number generator and randomize it 10 times. The outcome of the 10th "roll" is the order. Simple, easy, and quick. No problems or complaints so far, after several years.

I don't understand. why randomize it 10 times? what makes the tenth roll any different from the first?

Exactly. Not a dern thing. :D

Some owners feel it "ensures" fairness. :D

Me? I'd rather drink my beer then argue, so I say fine.....and push the button 9 more times..... :D

In our league, we have one keeper, and the draft order is based on last year's results, with the last place team drafting first and the SB winner drafting last. This year we changed it so that if an owner doesn't think they have a player worth keeping, they can decide to start over. In that case, they then have the first overall pick (but after all the other keepers are announced), with that pick being considered part of the keeper round.

With such a small number of keepers, I would suggest doing a random draw.

Basing on last years results is not really fair as just about every team should have two quality keepers. It makes sense when a larger portion of players are kept as then you see the stronger teams staying stronger from the keepers.

We keep 5 total, 1qb, 1rb, 1wr, and 2 of 3 te, k, or d. First 6 rounds are NFL style. The round 6 starts serpentine, starting with best to worst.

We only allowing trading of picks into the 5th round.
