DMD
Texans' Davis in danger of being cutIf season started today, Lundy would be No. 1 on depth chart By JOHN McCLAIN Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle Running back Domanick Davis, the Texans' career rushing leader, is in danger of not making the team this season. Davis, who missed five games in 2005, has not practiced since the first week of preseason because of a bruised left knee that is unrelated to the arthroscopic surgery he underwent on the same knee in December. Unlike Wali Lundy and Vernand Morency, Davis has been unable to be on the field to impress his new coaching staff, specifically head coach Gary Kubiak and offensive coordinator Troy Calhoun. Kubiak said Monday that if the regular season began today, Lundy would be the starter against Philadelphia. Each day, Kubiak grows more concerned about Davis' lack of availability during a week in which the roster will be reduced to a final 53 on Friday, one day after the Texans close preseason at home against Tampa Bay. "I'm very concerned," Kubiak said. "There's not much we can do about it, but I'm very concerned about that situation. It'll be a tough decision for the final 53. We'll make the decision based on what's best for Domanick and the team." The Texans will have several options. They can make Davis part of the final roster and wait for him to get healthy. They can place him on waivers. They can put him on injured reserve, which means he wouldn't play this season. They also could trade him, which is unlikely because he's damaged goods. Davis can't be placed on the physically unable to perform list because he passed the team's physical before training camp. Asked what has to happen for Davis to be on the 53-man roster, Kubiak said, "We have to see something that shows he's making a lot of progress. "Before the game Thursday, we'll probably have a sit-down with Domanick, the doctors, possibly his agent and everybody involved in the process to see where he is. That's going to be a big call. "The farther we go without him being on the field, the tougher that decision becomes. And when I say tough, it doesn't necessarily mean that Domanick won't be on the 53-man roster. If he's definitely making progress, and everybody thinks he's going to be able to play, then he will be (on the final roster)." Davis, who turns 26 in October, was on his way to a third consecutive 1,000-yard season a year ago but came up 24 yards short because of the knee injury. The surgery removed part of his lateral meniscus. Davis didn't participate in the offseason program while rehabilitating his knee. When camp began, he was on the practice field for two days before suffering the bruised knee that has kept him on the sideline. "I see a guy that's done everything the doctors have asked him to do," Kubiak said. "He was feeling great on the first day of training camp. He was excited about the season. I watched him work for two days and watched the knee respond. "I know it's been very frustrating for him. Last week, we set a schedule for him to follow, and I'm very encouraged by what he did. He ran well. It'll be interesting to see how he comes back." Kubiak has emphasized since early in training camp that Davis has to prove he can practice before he can play. He won't play against the Buccaneers. Lundy and Morency, who'll enter regular season as the top-two backs unless the team acquires some competition for the, won't play against Tampa Bay. Veteran Antowain Smith and rookie Chris Taylor will share the playing time. "They (Lundy and Morency) have played hard, and they've done a good job overall," Kubiak said. "Both are going to play, but if the season started (today), Lundy would be the starter, and Morency would play. "Antowain is fresh because he hasn't played the last two games. This is a big night or him. We want to see him and Taylor. We've got a tough decision to make on those two." Kubiak and general manager Rick Smith are looking at the waiver wire to bring in more players at several positions. "We'll be looking at linebackers very hard, and we'll be looking at running back hard," Kubiak said. "If we someone out there we think makes our team better, we're going after him." john.mcclain@chron.com

jaxfactor
Once again the Huddle comes through with the prognosis of Lundy as the starting RB in Houston. Although I shouldn't be surprised.
Grits and Shins
Sure looking like my decision to cut ties with Mr. Davis in both of the keeper leagues in which I owned him was the right one.
Aloyius
I guess the next question is in regards to those who are now in the waiver wire process of thier leagues. Since we have already drafted our pkayers, the obvious question is..."is this potential RBBC worth a waiver wire investment?" Now, ALL teams will rotate RB's to a certain extent...and even M. Anderson and T. Bell had value last year if they were obtained in the proper place during the draft. Thus, the main question in my opinion is, "where do the Houston RB's (Lundy & Morency) fall into this equation? I have already picked both of them up in league where my draft has been completed (via waivers), but in a draft coming up next week, what is the wise play? Houston, with the zone-blocking scheme and a history of good RB1 scoring in Fantasy Formats has potential...especially if it can be obtained late ina draft. Where do we see this situation going? Personally, I prefer Lundy, but it would be nice to have room for both he and Morency on a roster with 2 late round picks. However, with this recent news, itmay not be possible to land both. If such is the fact in your league, what is the wise move? And furthermore, what is the trade value now for these backs while the air is gray? Menudo
Sure looking like my decision to cut ties with Mr. Davis in both of the keeper leagues in which I owned him was the right one. Yeah, I had to do the same, but, I did it early enough that I still might have got some value in return.....
JFC
Meanwhile, Dom Davis remains on Yahoo's "can't cut list." So he can't be dropped. Nice one, Yahoo.

DMD
More info/insight from John McClain's blog.... A Pro Football Blog with John McClain I liked it when he ended it with "he's missed more time than TO". So why is all we ever hear about have to be TO-based? AtomicCEO
I drafted Wali Lundy in my local (no Huddlers) league. "Who?" "HaHAHAHAHHA!" "You suck, Atomic... nice pick!" Who's laughing now? Big Dogs
So, I have a actual NFL question, It's obvious that DD is still coming back from his injury, however, if Houston does in fact cut DD, I know they would be liable for the cap hit due to his contract extension. Could another team that needs some RB depth pick him up and sit him without taking a cap hit??

Revenge on my enemies will be swift and painful! I had exactly the same reaction in my local last night when I took Lundy as my 4th RB. He who laughs last, laughs longest, suckas..... TDFFFreak
Lundi with the 103rd pick overall (9th round) last week in BOTH Empire. I'm feeling pretty good about it now.
jetsfan
Just an update, local radio this morning reported that Kubiak is meeting with Davis on Thursday before the game to find out where things stand. Rumor has it that DD will be put on the IR, not cut. Also, Smith and Taylor will play in the final preseason game to figure out who will be RB3. Lundy will start against the Eagles with Morency as the 3rd down, cop back.
