TDFFFreak
There was a thread here a short while back that talked about where you want to draft this year if you had the option of picking. Of course most said picks 1-3 are the most desirable, but from there on many people stated that they disliked 4-8 and would either rather be somewhere in the 9-12 slots or they would pick the 8 slot before they would go with 4-7. My findings in a handful of leagues (some BOTH a couple non-BOTH) have showed what people say and what people ultimately do are often completely different. Every Huddle league I am in has been a pick your draft slot and the first 3 (with the exception of one player) draft the top 3 slots. That one team took the 5 slot, widely regarded in that previous draft slot picking thread as the worst or second-to-worst slot. After those first 3 have picked the 1-3 picks, guess what? You guessed it... the team picking 4th picks 4th, team picking 5th picks 5, team picking 6th picks the 6 spot, and so on. So, what gives people? If you had to pick now, where do you pick? Are people just afraid of being laughed at if they take the #8 slot with the 4th choice of draft slot? Is this a case of people not practicing what they preach? It'd be nice that people were locked into actaully doing what they post in the forums. Of course the possiblity exists that they are trying to throw fellow Huddlers off the players they want in the draft, but come on, most of the Huddle population is generally too smart for that. thecerwin
I had the 5th choice of draft position and I chose the 7th spot. I did it because I knew I wanted Steven Jackson and he was generally being drafted around the 7-9th spot in all of the mocks that I had seen. Well, for my part I have drafted 4th out of 12, 11th out of 12, 9th out of 17, 12th out of 32, 4th out of 10, 8th out of 16. In the most recent league that we share that I think you are referring to, I enjoy picking 6th because I like to have the pick mid round. It's more about not having too much lag between picks for me there than it is about what players I will get in rounds 1 and 2. The way I see it, I will come out roughly even in rounds 1 and 2 wherever I pick, so I might as well get the best I can in round 3 and then not have to wait too long to pick in round 4. That, and it was a different slot to draft from...

Also, who did you get in the 2nd round... would your round 2 pick not have been there 2 spots later? Big Country
In Faultline, a BOTH pick your slot league, here is how it went down. 1-3 went first. 4th took spot 6 (caveat, it was Chargerz, and our WCOFF team has the 6th spot, so he took this to gause what could be expected from the 6th slot) Then it went 8, 4, 10, 7 (me, wanted to be close to 6 for WCOFF practice), then 9, 11, 12. I would have taken 9 were it not for the fact that I really wanted to work this draft almost as a practice run for my WCOFF draft.
spain
I drew the 5th spot in my local 16 team re-draft league. I immediately sent out an email asking anybody behind me if they wanted to move up. No takers so far. I would rather draft 16th than 5th....

My first choice second round pick was not there as I was targeting Chad Johnson. I expected Chad would be gone by my second pick so I settled for my second choice second round pick which was TO (I took TO over Holt, S. Smith, Harrison, and Wayne). TDFFFreak
Maybe I just got the 2 Huddle leagues where people took the highest spot available. I'm just a little frustrated that in just about all of my leagues I am drafting in the 7, 8 or 10 slots. I would have liked to have a little higher pick in at least one of the leagues. Apparently everyone on the Huddle is pro-Jackson as well while Edge always falls to me.

TDFFFreak
Taking offers for the number 6 pick Looks like I will be a two time Edge owner in the BOTH huddle leagues. I'm cool with that.

Judge Smales
Just finishing up my first draft from the #1 slot, didn't like it this year at all. The lemmings in the league (I'm new to the league so didn't know how they would draft) couldn't stop following each other in picking RB's for two rounds and then WR's the next two. Being in the middle spots this year is the best IMO. You still get a top 6-7 RB, a decent shot at a top WR and your #3 pick is now your choice of a decent #2 RB or #2 WR. Picking at the ends this year are tough. At the 10-12 slots you're getting an ok #1 RB and if go with another RB you're getting a Tier 3 WR as your #1 WR (assuming a 12 team league). At the 1-3 slots you get a stud RB, but you may luck into a Tier 1 WR, you'll likely get a Tier 2 WR as your #1 and take your #2 RB a bit early based on value or another good WR but your #2 RB will be a stretch (better do your homework, as this is likely your best bet). hollywood_69
i had the real unlucky lowest draft slot, everybody picked before me, so i was left with #11. its tough down here at #11, look at my sig you might be able to see my stragedy. i kinda regret taking s. smith instead of mcgahee, but i feel this is the best i could have done
Wolv
I used to like the bookend pick at the end of the draft if I couldn't get 1-3, but my thoughts have changed some on this. No stud RBs, and a bunch of stud WRs. What do you do? Generally I go RB/RB, but if your picking at the end you are almost gauranteed to miss out on a top tier WR, even in a 10 man. RB/WR is about the only alternative, but then you are left with a risky RB #2 pick at the end of the 3rd. Picking from the middle will get you that stud WR in Rd 2 and still give you a decent shot at a less risky #2 RB. I had choice at #6 in a 10, and 1-5 slots were full. I picked #10. PPR league. Edge fell to 10, and McGahee was still there(looks good in ppr this year), so I took him as well. By the time it came back around, all the Tier 1 WRs were gone. I'm stocked with Tier 2 WRs, but not real happy with missing a Tier 1. Edited August 31, 2006 by Wolv
Kid Cid
I was the one with the third pick that chose the 5th slot. I'll tell why people mostly screw this up and why I did what I did. I was looking past the first round. Most people don't. When choosing draft slots most people see their shot at one of the big running backs and get blinded by that. Also, when people tell you that they don't want to pick in the 4-8 slots it's because of what they see in the first round. Since this is a ppr redraft league, I felt that I could get exceptional value out of the 5 hole (this was just before portis got hurt) and I jumped for joy when Tiki fell to me. (I would have grabbed S Jax otherwise). More importanly though, I felt more comfortable being farther away from the turn as I feel I bet better overall value and a better balanced team by moving down a bit overall. Savage Beatings
Well, I picked in the 12th spot last night in a redraft. Pretty happy... Portis fell to me for my #1 RB, and then I followed him up right away with Chad Johnson. Not a bad way to start your roster!
