Menudo
When reading the post about DMD's appearance, which, unfortunately, I didn't see, it brought up a couple of misonceptions that the public has about most of us fanatics. I'm talking about NFL fantatics, NCAA Football Fanatics, Fantasy Football fantatics, or those, like me, that are all three rolled into one. Misconception # 1 - Being a fanatic has our priorities out of whack. This isn't always said, but, you can read it on their faces. When people either see, hear, or are told about what a Steelers, Penn State, & Fantasy Football fanatic I am, you can tell quickly if the person hearing that is one of us, somewhere in the middle, or someone so far away from our world that they just don't understand it. The fact is, most of the fanatics I know DO have their priorities in-line. I have a child on the way that is due on Christmas day, and I've been asked several times, "What are you going to do if she goes in to labor during a Steelers game ?" The sad thing is, I wonder if they are being serious. Are you kidding me ? What am I going to do ? I'm going to frantically try to get everything together and get my wife to the hospital, for what will be the most important and life-changing moment of my life. The Steelers game will be far from my mind, though, I will still be looking for scoring updates when there is a break in the baby delivery action. The thing is, most of us have more free time than we want to admit. I see it all the time, people saying, I really just don't have time for this or that. It is usually bullcrap. They kill time doing what they like to do, and, I try not to judge that, whatever people like is fine with me. Sometimes I wondered if people like myself and my Dad did take sports too seriously, I guess some of those people got to me, but, then my Dad passed away last year, something that I'm still struggling to get over each and every day since. The bond that my Dad and I had with sports is something so special to me, that I can't put it into words. It made us as close as any Father and Son that I've ever known. It obviously wasn't the only thing we had to talk about, but, it consumed at least 85% of our conversations. How can something that special be a bad thing ? The point is, that if these people out of our realm examined closer, they'd find out that most of us do have our priorities in order, we've just found a hobby that we love and have a lot of passion for. Truthfully, I think some of them are jealous that they don't have something like that in their lives to get so passionate and excited for. My wife, who is slowly moving to our side , has admitted to me in the past that she wished she had something that got her as excited as football gets me. Misconception # 2 - Being a fantasy football fan takes away from your fandom to your favorite teams. In most cases, this is also bullcrap. I do have a few friends that have let Fantasy football steer them away from their favorite team, but, in most cases it hasn't done that at all. Pre-Fantasy Football, my NFL Sunday's were much less exciting. I still watched football all day, but, there were only a handful of games that peaked my interest. Now, I could be watching two teams that are rebuilding, Jets vs. Titans for example, and be intently watching every play hoping that Coles or Chris Brown come through with something big. I still never miss a play of a Steelers game, but, Fantasy football has just added so much excitement to my NFL weekends. Sorry about the rant. cliaz
I thought this was gonna be about being a steelers fan. You are slipping in your old age
Cosmo-J
Misconception # 1 - Being a fanatic has our priorities out of whack. I 100% agree with this being a misconception. I haven't gotten any work done at all during this shortened holiday week due to my excitement and FFL research for Week 1. Clearly, my priorities are in line. msaint
Congrats Menudo...just having had my first (a little girl, Harper Mae St. Amant) I can tell you there's nothing like it, best thing in the world. I always used to think the whole "it'll change your life forever" thing was just cult talk, but it's true. Best of luck with the pregnancy/birth. And re: the misconceptions, I agree 100%. In fact, I was so fired up after last night's G4 show that I wrote another one of those NYTimes blogs in response, that'll hopefully be up soon. The Wolf
Thanks. Yes, it is our first. I am so excited, I can't even put it into words. My wife and I just had our first. She's 11 weeks and 3 days old...Isabella Josephine Iadanza. It's not a cliche; you have no idea how much your life will change. I bought her a plain football jersey as I am a Jets fan and as her father, want her to have a better life than I. Hopefully, she becomes a fan of a team that has a chance to win every year. Either way, she is all set for opening night as am I. Congrats again!!
wildcat2334
Menudo- gluck tonight- should be an interesting game........ Aidan- nice choice- solid Irish name. As for this little FF stuff- I keep it on the low- don't really let people know that I am pretty into it. When I am out, with clients, chicas, my boys, I hardly ever discuss it. We made a rule- no discussing FF when out having some cocktails. I am huge sports/FF fan- but discreet about it.
msaint
I bought her a plain football jersey as I am a Jets fan and as her father, want her to have a better life than I. The tiny #12 Brady jersey was one of the first things I bought her, I think even before diapers. Though Squeegie and many anti-Brady-ites would suuggest I use that jersey as diapers. We unveil it this Sunday, can't wait!
Bengal Mania
Aidan Vincent Attivo I would've bet on "Little Ben", but maybe you already have that nickname for your....never mind. Congrats

Spartans91
Right on. We are complex enough people and can play fantasy football, bet on football, and write on these blogs at the same time. Heck, I even get some work done during the week. My priorities are perfectly in order.
