Menudo
thoughts? I kind of thought he fit the mold of what they could use more than Cobbs. I still don't understand why the released Cobbs instead of Staley though. Davenport could become a good option in short yardage situations. I like the move, just don't like getting rid of Cobbs instead of Staley. Cowher must not have been too impressed with Cobbs in his short time with the team. Also, not sure of the terms of the trade for Cobbs, but, this might eliminate them giving up a pick.
untateve
hmmm, I may hold onto him in my dynasty league a bit longer
Menudo
bye bye parker tds..we hardly knew ya I still think Parker will get the first chance at the GL touches. If Davenport shows he is clearly better at it in practice, then Cowher wil make the switch. Parker is still the kind of back who can score from 5+ out, so, I'm not too worried. Bushey
Davenport will spend every waking moment in the whirlpool. Just hope he doesn't poop in it.
Kid Cid
Ahhh yes, the Dumper finds a job. Could be a good fit for the Steelers.
Ursa Majoris
By happy coincidence I have been hanging on to Davenport in a league where I already own Parker. I hope he doesn't vulture too much but I can definitely see him as the main backup if Parker goes down.
The Wolf
Is he still injured? He's not listed on NFL.com yet and as a Parker owner, it may make sense to pick him up and stash him away on IR for a few weeks (thus saving a roster spot). Better yet, and considering his injury history, is he even worth picking up? Edited September 8, 2006 by The Wolf

I had given up on Parker getting goal-line touches back on draft day. But Willie is still going to get the ball between the 5's, so I still see him getting 5-6 TDs on the ground and maybe one or two more through the air. AtomicCEO
This is definitely the Death bell for Staley. He's not even active for games anymore.
Menudo
This is definitely the Death bell for Staley. He's not even active for games anymore. Yep. Actuallly, I can't believe they didn't release him. My guess is that the trade for Cobbs was conditional, and the fact that he never played might get them out of having to give up that pick. I'm also surprised that Staley is o.k. with all of this. I guess he is just fine sitting back and collecting his money as the #4 RB.
fairwarning
Steelers sign RB Davenport, release rookie Cobbs Sep. 8, 2006 CBS SportsLine.com wire reports PITTSBURGH -- Former Green Bay Packers running back Najeh Davenport signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday. Davenport, who has rushed for 1,068 yards in 39 NFL games, missed most of last season after breaking an ankle Oct. 9 against New Orleans. The 6-foot-1, 247-pounder was released last weekend by Green Bay. Davenport is expected to give the Steelers a power running back in the mold of the retired Jerome Bettis. To make room for Davenport on their 53-man roster, the Steelers released rookie running back Patrick Cobbs, who was acquired from the New England Patriots on Sept. 1 for a conditional draft pick, but did not play in the Steelers' season-opening game Thursday against Miami. Menudo
Willie Parker owner's...beware ! I love people that quickly jump to conclusions like this one. Davenport is coming off an injury. He is going to have to earn his way into playing time. This has potential to effect Willie Parker slightly donw the road, but, that remains to be seen. jjpro11
staley is a hit against the cap if they release him now.. i think like 1.5 mil.. they are better off just holding him and releasing him at the end of the season when that hit goes away. they have to starts saving up for polamalu and big ben. every penny counts.. they are known for letting guys walk and drafting replacements, but those are two guys that better never wear another uniform. every steelers fan agrees. As much as I hate the Steelers, Cowher seems to award starts based on merit. Parker earned the #1 job over Bettis and Staley last year. I seriously doubt that a broken down closet pooper will just walk in and take goal line carries. That, and Parker only came out after two very nice runs in a row, and seemed to take himself out. I not only own Parker, he was my 2nd keeper in a must keep 2 league. He's fine.
Ruffian
Davenport will spend every waking moment in the whirlpool. Just hope he doesn't poop in it. He'll be hanging with the king of whirlpools and Krispy Kremes, ol' number 22 himself. Unless, as suggested, Najeh drops anchor in the pool. Much like the candy bar scene from Caddyshack. MonkeyOne
How much does this reduce Verron Haynes' value as a backup? I suspect not much given Najeh's injury reputation.

At least not at first. But if Davenport looks good during practice and is healthy again, he could challenge Haynes for the #2 spot later this Fall. Haynes will still handle the 3rd down snaps, as he has done a very good job of it for the last three years.
