Doba Receives Cougar Flag From Afghanistan Soldiers

The Cougar flag was signed by over three dozen Cougar alumni serving in Afghanistan.

PULLMAN, Wash.- Over three dozen Cougar alumni, currently stationed in Afghanistan, honored Head Football Coach Bill Doba today, by presenting him with a white Cougar flag signed by each of the Washington National Guard soldiers.

 

The alumni, who call themselves the "Crimson Soldiers," had received a Cougar flag signed by various Cougar athletes and coaches two years earlier. This flag served as a constant source of inspiration and encouragement and the soldiers decided it was time to return the favor. They also wanted to remind the Cougar family that they have the undying support of the Crimson Soldiers. Led by Captain Tim Tate, the Crimson Soldiers signed the flag and flew it over the Bagram Air Force Base in Bagram, Afghanistan, in July.

 

The flag, presented today, Sept. 11, to coach Doba by Tate's long time friend and Pullman resident, Keith Bloom, was sent with a plaque stating when the flag was flown and a commerative campaign coin.

 

"The support for the Cougars across this state and across the world is just amazing," said Doba. "It is an honor to receive this and I thank you very much."
