MistaWrite Posted September 13, 2006 Share Posted September 13, 2006 I'm in the process of trading one of my recievers away for Donovan McNabb, primarily because the Tom Brady I believed to be a steal in the sixth round of our draft is really starting to worry me (even though I scored the 3rd most points of any team in my 12 team league I lost my 1st game by 2 points - w/Brady and Cadillac's low production to blame). Anybody else starting to worry about my favorite U of M overachiever? (side note: it's pretty funny how now, under the circumstances, Drew Henson can't even find steady NFL work - after starting over a 3-time SuperBowl champ in college. ) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
charty Posted September 13, 2006 Share Posted September 13, 2006 (edited) Keep in mind they only dressed three wide receivers last week, Troy Brown, Reche Caldwell, and Bam Childress (didn't even get a pass thrown his way). Doug Gabriel and the rookie Chad Jackson are expected to start contributing. If you can turn a WR for a Donovan McNabb (keeping Brady), go ahead, but it's not time to panic yet. Below are some comments from Brady today, pulled from boston.com. He gives some revealing comments about the affect the Branch thing had on him and his expectations of Gabriel/Jackson. How emotional were your conversations with Deion this week and when you realized he was traded? “They’re always [emotional], like very good friends. He meant a lot to me as a person and as a player he meant a lot to this organization. Part of it is just this crazy deal that we’re associated with. I don’t think I’ve become de-sensitized to it, I think it’s tough every time. For example, last week, I spent a lot of energy thinking about it. You look at the end of the week, it really wasted a lot of my time and a lot of my energy. It was a big mental drain and I think it affected the way I played. I just didn’t feel like I brought as much to the table as I normally could. That’s why I’m excited about this week – hey, I learned a good lesson, I’m going to go out there and try to do the best I can do.” Is there an urgency now, in terms of depth and getting weapons, of having Doug Gabriel and Chad Jackson on the field? “The more guys we can have out there healthy, the better it’s going to be. So the more guys that are out there who are able to contribute, especially those two guys – who can really do some things for this offense – yeah. When I look at last week’s game, we didn’t perform as well in the passing game as we would have liked, and there were a lot of factors that went into it. Certainly, it starts with me. I have to play better. I have to make better reads and better decisions and throw the ball more accurately. Veterans Jabar Gaffney and Kevin Johnson also took part in workouts. If any team could resuscitate Rogers' career, one would think it would be the Patriots. I'd be excited about Rogers except that it's pretty clear he never drank milk as a child -- his bones break in a stiff breeze. He admitted last week that he has been suspended by the NFL for 4 games for failing another drug test. The article I read said that it was uncertain whether or not he has served the 4 games suspension already by missing the first 4 games, or if he actually needs to be on a team's roster for it to count. PSULions Posted October 8, 2006 Share Posted October 8, 2006 I had Brady last year and he was terrific. The thing that his going to doom his production this year more than his WRs being a notch below what they have been is the arrival of Maroney. The Patriots had a much tougher time running the ball last year and were mainly effective moving the ball via the short passes that Brady is so good at throwing as the team moves down the field. This year the Pats have rediscovered their running game and it is helping them move the ball and also run the clock to control the ball. Unfortunately, I didn't figure this out until a few games into the season and what I thought was going to be a great pick will be a 10 - 15 pick for total points amongst QBs at the end of the season. Maroney helps the Pats win more games, but hurts those of us that have drafted Brady.... oh well. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
