bigmike4969
So I'm an Eagles fan, and while to me it does not matter if, while watching them on TV, I listen to the TV announcers or radio announcers for the play by play (unless it's the Monday nite crew), I have a friend who is not only an Eagles fan, but INSISTS on listening to the Eagles radio announcer Merrill Reese for the play by play. When he has friends over for football, he tunes in to either 94 WYSP (local philly station) or 103.7 (south jersey station) for Merrill. That's fine with me; I realize that by going to his house for the game I will hear the radio announcers. But here is where it gets a bit nuts: if he is invited to someone else's house for the game, he asks the host ahead of time if it is possible to put on the radio instead of listening to the TV. I am not kidding, he has gone so far as to bring a walkman to a friend's house (my friend told him ahead of time he would not listen to the radio broadcast). It actually gets out of control sometimes at his place because he has a HDTV but the HD broadcast is not always in sync with the radio broadcast so he tries to sync it up himself by switching around between the two radio stations and the HD and non-HD channels. We give him sh!t about it cause sometimes the radio is ahead of the TV action so we know what is coming up ahead of time before we see it. So with that in mind, I am just wondering if any of you out there are like him when you watch the game at home, whether you just listen to the TV announcers or tune your local radio dial to the team's radio announcers. crispirons
when i lived in chicago i/we would do that. i think it was johnny morris and butkus that used to do the games on newsradio 78. the radio announcers have the home town bias, and i like that. i don't remember the sound being out of sync, but that was like 10 yrs ago or more. phincle
I have a friend in Cleveland that's the same way with the Indians games. I always thought it was a bit wierd, I only listen to radio broadcast if I'm traveling.
TheGrunt
I have DirecTV so I just watch all 8 games on the same screen with the sound on the most exciting game at the moment. At any given play, and if it looks exciting, I'll quickly switch the sound to the other game but continue to keep a close watch on my favorite teams. It was difficult for the first hour to focus on all eight games but I got used to it.

If that makes sense....

Hat Trick
I just watch tv, too much work to listen to the radio. Plus theres a slight delay on my digital cable. Same here, i tried it for awhile after always hearing the same ol Phil Simms and Co. always bashing on the Chiefs, they could be 13-1 and those momos in the Northeast media would still be finding a way to pick them apart, however the delay was just too much. I listen to the 2 hour pregame show on the radio and the intro song before the game gets me super pumped up.
Vet
...the Northeast media would still be finding a way to pick them apart... As a resident of the Northeast, I'm surprised to hear you say that. All I seem to hear up here every year is how good the Chiefs are, how much of a home-field advantage they have, and how they've finally addressed their defense and are going to the Superbowl. I think the Chiefs are one of the most consistently over-rated and over-praised organizations in professional sports. But, thankfully, Herm will fix that. You'll be "under the radar", as they say, by the time he leaves...I mean is fired.

Vet
I just watch tv, too much work to listen to the radio. Plus theres a slight delay on my digital cable. It's not just digital cable, it's regular cable as well. I used to turn off the TV sound and listen to both the Jets and Mets on the radio (grew up with Bob Murphy doing Mets and Spenser Ross doing Jets) and loved it. But about 5 years or so ago, the delay kicked in. It got too annoying. I still sometimes turn off the TV sound, however.
Phazool
I listen to the TV. I have tried to listen to the radio in the past, but there is always a delay of a few seconds and that always screws me up.
Menudo
When Pittsburgh's legendary Myron Cope was announcing, I would use my Tivo to pause the TV and synch it up with my Sirius Satellite Radio so that I could listen to Myron. This was a bit of a pain because getting them in synch was difficult, you couldn't switch channels during commerical because it would put it out of synch, and the sound quality isn't as good. However, all of that was worth it to hear Myron during the Steelers game. Myron Cope retired before last season, so, now, I just listen to the TV announcers. I do miss listening to Myron though. For those that don't know, Myron Cope is the odd sounding maniac that used to announce Steelers games. He also is the inventor of the 'Terrible Towel' which caught on pretty well I would say, and he also came up with Jerome Bettis' "The Bus" nickname, which also stuck. He was the kind of announcer that Steelers fans loved, and everyone else hated, which is how a hometown announcer should be, imho.

Seriously though your view might be completely different from mine living there so we will have to agree to disagree on this, but ask any Chiefs fan and they will echo my sentiments. And I do disagree on one point, the Chiefs D is better and will be even better in a couple weeks, they thrashed the Bengals at home to finish the season and they had a RB come off the best 9 weeks anyone had ever witnessed, got a defensive minded coach (what we needed) and might have been touted a little much THIS year, but that's about it. The reason i bring up the Bengals is this, Arrowhead is one of the top 1-5 places to play a game, doubt you'd argue with that, if so I'd invite you here and I'll take you to a game so you'd understand, they should have gotten thrashed last week after Trent went down, they we trying to come back until that happened, the crowd, not the Chiefs were the reason for a lot of the sucess last week, the team gave up after Trent got hurt IMO. This is also another reason why the Chiefs get some props, fine Organization, with some of the most optimistic fans around, we love our Chiefs, it's not like we have anything else to be proud about here sports wise. Herm's teams here were notoriously slow starting. We usually got our QB clobbered early in the season, too. And I saw in the paper that he was questioned by the KC press about being too conservative and he basically blamed it on the prior regime saying that he "ran the same offense Kansas City has been running for 5 years". He can be a bit sensitive. But, he'll have players running through a wall for him by mid-October. The guy does know how to motivate people, I'll give him that. Boy that didn't go over to well, he ripped the guy a new one, told him he better get his facts straight before he starts spouting off things he knows nothing about. The guy was just being nice trying to show Herm he respected him and the guy came away with the autograph still, but was beat red and embarrassed. I could see how someone would feel a little disrespected as a DB to have someone leave out 12 INT's over the course of your career, but man come on this was over the top. A Chiefs fan on his knees.... doesn't get much better then that... Ok, Oakland... but even the inmates laugh when someone mentions they might win... Can't wait until you meet the Broncos!!! Anyway, Sony HD 60" (KDF-60XS955).... the wife and I usually have the TV commentators on... even when the boys are over, our conversation/analysis is louder then the nitwits on TV... Thinking about buying a headset so I can listen to Colorado College hockey... KOA I think it iz... 1240 AM in any event...
