Seattle LawDawg
when there are recipes that appeal to me from seeing them on one of the shows..... food network, but i think they don't have a great range. Google.com. I rarely will use a recipe for cooking. When I know what I want to prepare and have no idea how to do it, I'll google for multiple recipes, evaluate the common elements as well as some of the unique qualities of each and then go my own direction. Thats a major part of what makes cooking enjoyable for me.
Bier Meister
desserts are more precise... like to know my proportions, so will bust out recipes. other coarses are much more improvisational. when needed, i use my textbook from school..... and then adjust. for example: we did a wedding last weekend and they wanted coq au vin........ np, but i haven't done it for 150...so needed proportions on a grander scale. the bride was a piece of work..... wanted coq au vin, but no bacon, no mushrooms...and wanted tomatoes in there (so she didn't want coq au vin ) the bridal party took off for pictures and returned 3 hours later. all apps were gone and she began to cry. so, during dinner service, i had to break away and make her some from scratch. i understand that she had the entire hotel bitter with them... very high maintanence. Kid Cid
http://www.allrecipes.com There's some junk, but if you know how to feel if a recipe will be good from reading it, there are some real gems. It also doesn't hurt that there's a rating system.

Big Country
My favorite site for recipes is the huddle. Just mention one of your ingredients and you get like 15 good recipes for it. Like, if I were to say I need recipes for Ecuadorian Sea Slugs, I could find like 15 recipes posted here in no time.

Hollowed out sourdough, morels, heavy cream, garlic, bacon, & escargot. I haven't made it in years so it may take some digging up.
