The Holy Roller
Great article and so very true. For Week 2 I over analyzed and started Fred Taylor instead of Westbrook. I was especially worried after reading on Sunday morning that Westy was a "gametime decision". Fearing a big ole ZERO I panicked and put Fragile in. I deserve what happened to me. Always Start Your Studs. Unless you don't have any, ie, Randy Moss, LaMont Jordan, etc.

policyvote
I've almost written this article several times. You simply can't play the matchups in the first few weeks because you have no idea what the matchups really are! I have a hard and fast rule that I follow: set a lineup of my best players (the ones I drafted to start) and turn in that lineup for the first three weeks, excepting byes and injuries of course. I almost always start the season 3-0 (excepting Dynasty Wars where I took over a wretched franchise). Peace policy

I started Amani Toomer in two leagues because Philly was without their starting CB. Other than that, I think you make a very good point here. I think that's a good rule of thumb, but not an absolute by any means (just like Occam's razor). Edited September 20, 2006 by BeeR

crispirons
in botnh league, i am starting stallworth and coles over my top picks moss and moss. i benched randy for donte last week and that worked out well. in my local league, i lost because i went against tomlinson and toomer for one thing, but i lost by 6 pts. the difference would have been made up if i had started L.J. Smith my backup ( ) over my starter gates. also might have made the points up switching kickers.....reed = big fat goose egg. anyway, always exceptions to the rule and i never try to outhink things. just looked like a trend had started as far as my wr's were concerned.
