Morency was brought in to be a COP back, not an every down guy. He is the new Tony Fisher in this offense. It does not really matter though because this is a bad team with a bad offensive line trying to learn a new scheme. When Green goes down, you will see a smattering of Herron and Morency in equal parts sucky football.

Hmm...sounds kinda like what we're seeing with Green healthy. :D

i'm not sure of the rushing stats they had last week but tell me why........the offensive line seems to be able to run block (they did well against the bears), but when they pass block.....well......they suck. is that just a 1 game observation from the bears/packers game or was it the same last week?

GO NOAH!!!!

Packers RB Morency To See Increased Role In Offense

Packers.com - [Full Article]

According to Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, running back Vernand Morency is expected to see an increased role with the team in Week 3. "I think you'll see some more of him this week," McCarthy said. "He's picked it up very fast. I thought he did well today in practice with his opportunities. I'm very happy with him, I think he's been a good addition. We'll look to use him and get some productivity out of him this week."

FWIW.

Their pass blocking is heinous.

The run blocking wasn't awful - they were getting decent push at the point against NO, they just weren't getting to the 2nd level and cutting off backside pursuit, which DEFINITELY has an adverse effect in the scheme they run.

He had zero carries last week. Is 1 carry enough of an increase? :D

Sure he's going to use coach speak and tell his new guy they have plans for him, but what does that really mean?

Yeah, I agree with that. Herron's actually pretty good, too -- until, for some reason, somebody hits the slo-mo button on his legs after he gets through the hole. :D

Come on now... I think that is very much wishful thinking. If Green goes down, I see Morency taking over. I dont think Herron has what it takes to start in this league.

Hmm...did you stop reading RIGHT after the part you bolded? :D

I was agreeing that Herron would get the first crack at the most carries if/when Ahman goes down, but my "enthusiasm" about his ability was blanketed in sarcasm.

Morency ran the ball on a return in the 4th quarter, and ran hard with a decent upfield cut. That stood out in contrast with Koren Robinson's east-west meanderings and must be what caught McCarthy's attention.

After having watched Herron & Morency, my money would be on Morency getting the bulk of the work if Green goes down. Regardless of which one were to take over in the event of Green going down, I don't think either would produce much, until later in the year when the O'line has had more of a chance to jell.

Good stuff here - Green has been adequate in an FF sense, exceptional in a real football sense, behind a line that is still quite clearly a work in progress (at best).
