NE's O looks bad

They just have no flow at all. They are running on 1st too much IMO. I also firmly believe they will need to throw to win this game. Their run game has been stuffed. I think Denver came in here saying lets make them pass to beat us. I just want to see NE open it up at least a little here. Denver's D isn't THAT great.

They have no receivers.

They let them all go play for other teams.

I hear that but still. Look NE always gets a pass because they've won so much but when do they start to take a hit? They let both their WR's go and now have Caldwell, Brown, and Jackson who is hurt, at WR. They are under the cap and should have re-signed at least 1 of their guys. With that said all I can say is they still need to be agressive though. They just aren't here. It is their only chance. And you know what Brady doesn't look like he's into this game at all. He needs his fire back.

When NE signed a couple guys on the cheap (Brady and Seymour), everyone praised these guys for taking less than market value in order to help the team.

I said at the time that I wondered what would happen when they stopped winning Super Bowls.

Players are now not willing to take less.

And I'm guessing guys that did will soon be wishing they hadn't.

I mean, why sign for less if the team isn't willing to bring back key members? Especially when they have the cap space?

I agree what they have done is ridiculous. They should have opened their wallets and brought back at least one of Branch/Givens. Couldn't let them both walk when you are way under the cap. That isn't smart if you're NE or Belichick or whomever.

That's right. Losing Branch affected Brady much more than they expected. He's a good soldier, he'll do his best, but if they don't change they will hurt themselves even more. Vinatieri's a good example of that. How much was actually disputed(the diference between what they offered and what he signed for)?

Now they are going with T Brown and Caldwell?

When Givens walked in the free agent period, it was seen as a blow, but that the Titans may have overpaid. He's a late round pick who FINISHED his rookie contract and hit the big payday with a very bad team....Good for him.

The Branch issue has hurt, no doubt. Without Jackson in there, there were very few open receivers last night. Jackson has an explosiveness that no other receiver on the squad has. The issue with Branch though, is he held out under contract, demanding a new contract. How many WRs have done this recently and still played with that team the same year? Walker???? Lelie???? McCardell w/ Bucs??? I don't think any of them have.

It's not like the Pats did anything out of the ordinary. The problem is they could have spent a second round pick and got something better than Gabriel for a 4th (like hmmm, maybe a Walker type that they just watched light them up).

And as far as Brady and Seymour on the cheap. It's hard to find contract structure, but I found the following on rotowold...

Here is Seymours deal.

Signed a four-year, $30 million contract extension through 2009. $24 million is guaranteed, including a 18.6 million option bonus in 2007. His cap number is slated to be just $4.4 million in 2006 before jumping to $8.26 million in 2007, $8.39 million in 2008 and $11.34 million in 2009.

Notice that $24 of the $30 million is guarenteed, that means he's probably going to see every cent of that contract. And the space the Pats have on the cap now, it's thought that some of the 18.6 roster bonus for 2007 will be pulled in and applied to this years cap.

Compare that to Kearse, which appears that only $16M of the $66M is guarenteed. Is he going to see the money slated for 2009, 2010, or 2011?

Signed an eight-year, $66 million contract on 3/3/2004. The deal included a $16 million signing bonus and base salaries of, for 2006: $2,075,000, 2007: $5,200,000, 2008: $6,460,000, 2009: $7,720,000, 2010: $8,980,000, 2011: $10,240,000.

Now Brady signed a six-year, $60 million extension on 05/07/2005. Brady will receive $26.5 million in bonus money in the first two years of the contract. I know that doesn't compare to Manning's 7yr, 99.2M deal, but Peyton needs to be the highest paid, throw the most touchdowns, and basically be the next Dan Marino. The problem, at least this year with the Pats, is Brady took a deal thinking the Pats would spend to the cap and supply him with legitimate #1 and #2 receivers. And sadly, it just isn't the case.

I'm still completely shocked and distraught over how Bill Belichik handled the Branch situation. it's obviously effecting Brady in a negative manner. His avg pass was like 6 yards? I've been SCREAMING about Branch and his YAC which is SO important to a QB like Brady. he can fit the ball ANYWHERE. He's a rock solid QB (and fantasy wise, he'll probably be juggernaut, as most games will go the same way as it did vs denver) but he cannot make every play open up so these receivers can run for TDs.

If it's 1st and goal, Brady will get a TD. Without a doubt. 9 times out of 10. But if it's 1st and 10 on the other 30, you can't expect him to make 11 straight 6 yard passes to move them to the goal line.

It's obvious that BB had no intention of letting Branch go. They needed him and as I said before, it was PURE LUNACY to let him shop a trade. I knew he would get an offer. I even knew the Jets would give an offer.

What appears to have happened (to me anyway) is BB has a fragile ego, like most men, and took it personally when Branch said how it was gonna be his way or no way. Instead of swallowing his pride, he said there's the door. And now they've screwed the team, the fans, and most importantly Brady (both on and off the field, with less of a contract than Brady is worth. shocking that they would do that, isn't it?)

I hate to beat a dead horse, but I do it so well.

I'm sure the other AFC EAST teams are loving it, because BB looks like a rookie HC, with regards to this situation.

granted the patriots have nobody that can stretch the field...and its making things difficult...but jesus...toms throws have been pretty horrible overall in the first 3 weeks...overthrown...underthrown...caldwell open on an out, and he misses the throw....

id also like to say that for the 2nd meeting in a row with the broncos...the officials were pretty bad

for the 3rd week for 45 OTHER GAMES this year, they've been pretty bad. The officials are making a mockery of themselves. It's nothing short of a disgusting. :D

There is no need to sugar coat it or walk on any eggshells-letting Branch go has hurt the O and will continue to do so for the foreseable future. The true blessing is that the Dolphins appear to be struggling on O as well and this could be the saving grace. This division is wide open I'd say, as the Bills and Jet's don't seem to go quietly into the night-plus the Jet's and Bills have slightly easier schedules-this is going to be interesting to watch.

And yet again, the head of officiating (Pereira sp??) will back all his guys and say they're wonderful when Rich Eisen brings up 10 bad calls on the NFL Network.

Bad calls happen, no doubt. Any time humans are involved, errors go with their judgment. However, I have found that in the really close calls - where they are making judgments at real time speed and not after numerous varied-angles replays at super slomo - that they get the close calls right a lot more often than not. I have also found that most claims of bad calls have been a result of biased fans who either see what they want to see rather than what really happened and/or simply don't understand the rules of the game.

That said, I firmly agree that the officals ought to be full time guys, and that they ought to be judged weekly on their performance and disciplined accordingly when they screw up (and when I say screw up, I mean either misinterpret the rules, or call something that didn't actually occur - not the converse where they miss something, unless it becomes a regularly repeated issue).

the pats deep threat appears to be ben watson. watson cannot get open downfield when he's being double covered. basically, watson's been a fantasy bust b/c they have no one else to throw to. w/out jackson in the lineup, there is no one to stretch to field and brady will have average stats all year long. he won't kill fantasy teams, but he won't win you many games either.

and the pats d while pretty good, is nothing great either. junior seau is 100 years old and slow. the pats are just lucky they're in a weak division.

It's not the judgement calls that we see the other way through super slo-mo, but the ones where they don't get it right after a challenge or blow the whistle and stop the play when they should let it play out and then look at that drive me nuts. Of course there's human error involved, but they never say "sorry, human error" when they do screw up, they just talk circles until people forget what the issue even was.

I play soccer and remember a game where at one point I had a great chance to score and totally mis hit the ball. I was arguing with a ref at one point about a call he missed and he said "Hey, I missed the call, you missed the net...we're even". I laughed my ass off and shook his hand. At least he was accountable.

Move over Seattle fans, this guy is the biggest :D every.....

He once made this statement, so, I'm not surprised.

most peoples teams "just lose"...thing is..the patriots dont "just lose" unless they are severly banged up or the victims of horrible officiating :D

:D At least when the Steelers lose, I take it stride and give credit where it's due.

Saying, 'your team still suck...and they aren't going anywhere, so whatever' is what 5th graders do...... :D
