CD6405 Posted September 27, 2006 Author Share Posted September 27, 2006 (edited) Report: T.O. taken to emergency room, reason unknown September 27, 2006 DALLAS (AP) -- Terrell Owens was taken to the emergency room for an undisclosed reason Tuesday night, and doctors treating the Dallas Cowboys receiver were trying to induce vomiting, according to a television report. Owens was brought by a fire rescue crew to Baylor Medical Center, Dallas-Fort Worth television station KTVT reported, citing sources the television station did not identify. A reporter for the station later said she saw Owens being wheeled down the hall. Calls from The Associated Press to Owens' agent, his publicist and the Cowboys were not immediately returned Tuesday night. The hospital told the AP that they do not have a patient registered by Owens' name. KTVT said a Dallas police spokesperson was en route to the hospital to talk about a "high profile case." Owens broke the bone leading to his right ring finger a week ago Sunday night. The next day, a plate was screwed in, protecting the bone so it can heal without further damage. Earlier Tuesday, Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said he expects Owens to rejoin his teammates at practice Wednesday and would start Sunday in Tennessee if he proves he can play. "It's just, can he withstand the pain of catching the ball?" Parcells said. "When he can stand it, he can play." With the Cowboys having had a bye last weekend, Owens could return without having missed a game. He's already said he'll play Oct. 8, when he gets to face his former team, the Eagles, in Philadelphia. Owens' publicist, Kim Etheridge, said of the incident, "This is not serious." The source said Owens' status is unknown for today's practice and for the Cowboys' game Sunday at Tennessee. KTVT, a Dallas TV station, reported that a fire rescue team took Owens to the hospital, reportedly to the emergency room to induce vomiting. Dallas police did not confirm nor deny any details. Calls to Owens' agent were not returned. Owens was on pain medication after he suffered a broken bone leading to his right ring finger in the Sept. 17 game against Washington. The next day, Owens had a plate screwed in to protect the bone so it could heal with no further risk of damage. Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said Sept. 20, "the pain medicine made [Owens] ill." The original prognosis was that Owens would be out two to four weeks. But after having the plate inserted into his hand, the question was whether Owens could withstand the pain of playing and catching passes with the plate. Owens has not practiced with the team since the injury. He caught passes Tuesday on the side, and Parcells earlier said he thought Owens would join the team for practice today. We have EMT's and FRT's. It is a way that we get additional coverage. Each firehouse has two to four guys that are trained paramedics. Sounds like an O.D. to me.
