The Holy Roller
Is he playing or not? Haven't seen anything about him this week. Captain Hook?
CaptainHook
Did not practice Wednesday. Missed a portion of team drills Thursday. Might be a more definitve word on Friday. Gramatica is still on the roster, FWIW. Corey Simon and Bob Sanders have been ruled out for Sunday.
piratesownninjas
The story is that he's a big splash splash.
Vinatieri Is God
Shoulda never left NE big guy.
football12
I'm almost thinking of dumping him and picking up a healthy kicker from the waiver wire. Having two roster spots used for my kickers every week is frustrating!
CaptainHook
Shoulda never left NE big guy. Shoulda paid him, I guess. Vinatieri will play on Sunday: The Colts should be able to rely on the reliable right leg of Adam Vinatieri in Sunday’s game with the New York Jets in the Meadowlands. The team’s veteran place-kicker went through a strenuous workout this morning and, barring a setback, expects to play. He was not available for comment, but coach Tony Dungy said “he’s pretty set on kicking.’’ A strained groin forced Vinatieri to miss last Sunday’s win over Jacksonville, the first game he’s missed in his 11-year career. Even with Vinatieri’s return, Martin Gramatica might handle kickoffs. During his career, Vinatieri has converted 23-of-25 field-goal attempts at the Meadowlands. He was 4-for-4 in the Colts’ season-opener against the New York Giants. link
Randall
Shoulda paid him, I guess. He won all 3 superbowls, have enough money, but didn't pay him. Explain that to me. Edited September 29, 2006 by Randall
charty
He won all 3 superbowls, have enough money, but didn't pay him. Explain that to me. I guess they take the position of paying somone for what they will do the next 4 years, instead of what they did the past 4 years.

Exactly - but it's not as if his skills have/will diminish. He's the best clutch kicker in the history of the league and he has several good years left. He's the best clutch kicker in the history of the league and he has several good years left. First, his kickoffs have been getting worse and worse each year, and Belichick would never carry an extra kicker to do kickoffs if kicker #1 was the highest paid kicker in the league. It's not even the money, it's the roster spot that's important. Also, the Pats last year had many situations where a long field goal seemed like a legitimate option......but, either punted or went for it on 4th down depending where they were on the field. You might say that's strategy coming into play, but the fact is Vinatieri hasn't hit a field goal over 50 yds since 2002. He was 20 for 24 last year, 4 for 8 from 40 yds and beyond (0-2 50+). And leave it to Vinatieri is/was God to turn a "is Vinatieri playing?" topic into a Pats vs Colts discussion. In 2003 he had 2. So much for that. And he's 7-7 with a long of 48 this year. Gostkowski is 2-4 with a long of 32. 1-2 under 30 yards. Nice. And since New England isn't going to be a SB contender for the next four years, letting a 34-year-old kicker who can command top dollar walk as a free agent isn't a bad idea. On the other side of that deal, the Colts needed a guy who could make FGs in critical situations, so it was pretty much a no-brainer. Bill Swerski
yep... and this per a conversation w/ Dungy he says Keeping him out another week is smart, regardless of the field conditions. Groin injuries take time to heal and rushing him back might be counter-productive. Edited October 1, 2006 by Bill Swerski
