Hugh 0ne
3 first round draft picks in 3 years, and the only one that sees the field and occasionally makes a reception is Roy Williams. What gives? How did the other 2 fall from grace so quickly? What does their future hold? Why did this all happen? Any insight would be appreciated. Cosmo-J
What happened to the Detroit WR's? A bad Offensive Line, bad QB's, a terrible owner, and a terrible President and CEO.
ReturnToSender
Maurice Clarett...could you imagine if Mike Williams would have stayed in school and what he would have done at USC that year, and where he would have been drafted, and what team he would be starting on now? He can't crack the active roster on the Lions, and it's because of Maurice Clarett? But he'd be starting on another team?
Ol' Gil
Rogers: Bad attitude, got paid and was just happy to be getting paid. Also, he supposedly lost some of his speed from collegeI think Miami saw that as did TB. M. Williams: See Rogers except for the speed part which he never had. He isn't doing exactly what they want in practices Who knows what that is, but that is why he can't crack that lineup. Millen is a buffoon and makes Joe Dumars look like a drafting genius. I see your point, and it is interesting to think what would have happened to Mike Williams if wouldn't have been swayed by dumbas$ Clarett's decision. However, when guys come from college to the NFL they either take their training to another level, or they don't. With all Mike Williams' weight problems and loads of talent but unable to crack the Lions' starting WR's spots, I fear he's done the latter. Which is a shame... And he's not doing himself any favors to set himself up to be attractive trade-bait. Sure, another team my take a fly on him, but there won't be premium $$'s attached to his new contract. If anything, other teams look at him as a #3 WR, if that - and that's no one's fault but Mike Williams'.
RussMan
Croj. Started off looking like a player but quickly suffered a broken collar bone and missed time... then broke it again and missed more time.. then he was caught as a repeat substance abuser and missed time again. The dude washed out. Mike Williams. Had an attitude problem in college and reputation for being late to meetings and practice. He prompltly unpacked that baggage in Detroit and was fined big time for being late to meetings and practice last season. Starts off this season being dismissed from practice becuase he was late.... add to that he is constantly overweight. They have one legit WR in Roy Williams and are trying to fill the other roles with unknown guys, and retreads like Az Hakim and the now departed Bradford. Avernus
I like Az-Hakim and Furrey from them.....Az-Hakim can be the #2 by default and Furrey will play slot.. edit: but Furrey is #2, something that I missed on.. Probably because Hakim knows the slot role very well in this offense.

Shot_Kings
One thing to add that hasn't been mentioned is the coaching changes. Martz runs a complicated offense based on precise route-running & explosiveness out of the cuts to get separation. He prefers hard-working receivers who know how to go where they are supposed to be to guys who tend to get by on natural playmaking ability. This is why Mike Furrey is starting instead of Mike Williams. Since Martz didn't draft Rogers or Mike Williams, he doesn't feel like he has to try to make them fit into his scheme. So unless Mike Williams grows up & learns how to play receiver the way that Martz wants, he is likely to be the forgotten man in this offense - until it becomes cap-friendly to dump him (or alternatively Martz gets the heave-ho first for not turning the offense around). Anyway, this doesn't necessarily mean that Charles Rogers and/or Mike Williams will always be busts. Either or both could find a new attitude and team/system that fits their strengths. But I'm not betting on it.

Furd
A bad Offensive Line, bad QB's, a terrible owner, and a terrible President and CEO. There is some truth to that. But I don't think that you can really blame Rogers' and Mike Williams failures (thus far) on those factors. Rogers is a pothead who just wasn't the same after his collarbone injuries. Williams is lazy and hasn't shown anything in practice, let alone a game. Rogers and Williams are to blame. Overhyped and overated.
