T-Scorp
I always enjoy reading Kevins misery index. As a Viking fan I expected to see my squad finally crack that list this week. Let me make a case for inclusion... 3 Offensive TD's in 16 quarters!!!! (only one in the last 13) 5 TD's total one on a fake FG and one on a INT. This offense makes the 2000 Ravens look like the 1999 Rams!!! Our offensive line which going into the season was supposed to be one of the best with McKinney, Hutch, and Birk can't open a hole. Chester Taylor after carring the ball 75 times in 3 games rushed 10 times last week against Buffalo. IF you can't run you can't play action pass. While Williamson has shown flashes of greatness he continues to drop balls like Tony Montana dropped the F-Bomb in Scarface! Until the Vikings can find a receiver to stretch the field, opposing defenses are going to continue to stack the box. Our red zone scoring is putrid, they rank 27th in the league!! Penalties have killed them. We have not seen the offensive mind of Childress yet, however McNabb and Philly don't seem to be missing him.. Our defense is looking good so far, but in their two wins they played Washington without a healthy Portis and Carolina without Smith, but fortunately a health coach Fox who called a stupid play on a punt return to give the Vikings the game. In their two losses they allowed both Buffalo and Chicago to march down the field and score TD's when they needed stops. I think they are going to start getting exposed more and more as the season goes on. I don't know about my fellow Viking fans but I am miserable evertime I watch this offense. All valid points, but the fact remains that the Vikes are 2-2. How could I include them when I left the 1-2 Steelers out? The Index is not an exact science, and a lot of it has to do with the teams outlook as well as their record. I don't see the Vikings floundering like this in the long run, though after watching Sunday's game I certainly think you are entitled to your misery right now. Just not good enough though. The field is crowded.
Ursa Majoris
Nothing to do with the Misery Index but hugh for the rant about Internet gambling. Brilliant.
rattsass
Nothing to do with the Misery Index but hugh for the rant about Internet gambling. Brilliant. Thanks, I am quite proud of that. It felt really good to write. If you can't stick it to the man, trashing him in a public forum is a nice consolation prize.
Hat Trick
As I've stated before I like the article and it's a must read for me every week.............but I am a little annoyed that the Chiefs made the misery index when they were on a bye and then after blowing away SF. I'd also like to know who you were around that didn't think the game would be a blowout, I most certainly did. Sure SF is years away but they have played a lot better this season and were DOMINATED in every facet of the game by the Chiefs and in the NFL that speaks volumes. Carry on. Call me a Chiefs fan still waiting to be impressed. I guess I'm still stinging from the first 2 games. You bring in a young over-matched team to Arrowhead to play a HIGHLY motivated Chiefs team.....eh, nice win but I'm not doing cartwheels. And the defense is much improved. But let's wait until they duplicate last weeks performance in Arizona this week before we paint too rosy a picture. I mean, how far is Huard going to take them if Green keeps having problems? All is not well. Edited October 3, 2006 by rattsass

All is not well. Oh I feel ya, however a team that hasn't allowed a TD in 9 qtrs I believe and competing (in DENVER nonetheless) and winning with a backup QB who hasn't taken a snap since 00 or 01 is pretty impressive. Now do i think they are going to the Super Bowl or even the playoffs, probably unlikely, but this team is improving at every position and they may end the season on a roll once again, they are in no way one of the 10 worst teams in the NFL and you know it. You are skeptic just like most of us are in this city and wee do hail from the SHOW ME state, and I agree a lot can be left to be desired, but they played okay against CINN, and I felt a comeback in the works until Green went down. They and I stress could be 3-0 right now even despite the offensive line play. The defense is going to keep us in games and probably win us a couple before it's all said and done. Despite ARZ sucky play they have two big WR's who match up perfectly against our small CB's, but if Leinert doesn't read the defense right and or we get pressure on him the way we have been to the QB, then uh goodnight......game over. Bill Swerski
Way to slam the morons in Washington over the Inernet Gambling addendum to the Port Security Bill. I'm sick and tired of the government screwing everyone under the guise of protecting the irresponsible. As Ron White says, "You can't fix stupid." Timmypg
First off I love your article. However, the Redskins are 2-2 not 1-4. They pounded the Texans in week 3.

Because you put a 3-1 team in? I won't argue that this partiuclar team should be left out of any kind of "misery" list after Sunday night though. rattsass
First off I love your article. However, the Redskins are 2-2 not 1-4. They pounded the Texans in week 3. Yeah, I like to include at least one factual error each week to give the hounds something to sniff out. Actually I find that after spending 10 hours or more writing the article, and as bleary as I get staring at the computer screen, it's amazing I don't have even more errors on a weekly basis than I do. I suppose if DMD didn't work 150 hours a week himself, he might have time to correct all my mishaps. I'm trying to get better. That was the first thing I noticed when I read it with "fresh" eyes thismorning. I had some notations scratched on my pad and somehow got the 'Skins record wrong. My bad!
