detlef
Got this bottle as a tip from one of my clients for a meal I did last month. Honestly, I was concerned at the time about how well it would be holding up. One the plus side, it's from a top producer in a great vintage that was made before consumer demand drove winemakers into making wines that show better young. On the other hand, it was only a villages level wine and I had no idea how well it had been stored before he bought it. Turns out a friend of mine had tasted the very same wine a few years ago as they'd recently released library selections directly from the winery. That was a good sign if this happened to be from that batch. At any rate, it was freaking awesome. It was a rainy sunday and my wife and I were hanging out making some butternut squash soup and watching T.O. implode on the Dallas sidelines, so I thought it a good time for a potentially special bottle. The color was a very browned version of red but was completely brilliant. Right out of the bottle it showed very earthy fruit on the nose but didn't taste particularily charming. As I typically don't expect a wine that's on the wrong side of the age curve to improve after being opened I didn't have high hopes. As it turns out, the thing totally blossomed in about 15-20 minutes into a picture of what Pinot Noir should taste like. Rich earthy nose, subtle exotic black cherry flavors and perfectly integrated acid.
majorbuzz
Can you get a major buzz off of this?
detlef
Can you get a major buzz off of this? Since a) it's got alcohol and bee) it drinks very easily, I'd say yes. But there are certainly cheaper ways to get there.
