MNF IS DYING

MNF is being ruined by the crews and the producers. ESPN of all networks should know better.

1. They have interviews with people who nobody cares about DURING THE GAME. Then they go to the sideline stewardesses for what........I don't know? I have read everything they say on the huddle and espn already. And they're not even cute!

2. They miss every significant thing on the field it seems. For example, J Lewis gets rocked on that play late in the third and gets up staggering and silly legged just before another commercial session. NO mention of it even when Mike Anderson comes in to replace him. T Bell carries Ray Lewis late in the forth for 6 yards. No mention of it, just how he runs hard.

3. Joe's Brain is as broke as his leg. He will contradict himself so many times during the game it's almost like listening to Jerry Rice on Sirius Satelite Radio say Uhhh 1000 times a show.

4. It's as if they aren’t even paying attention to the game just trying to say something interesting. None of them are football guys, including Joe.

Monday night football is just that, Monday night football. That's enough, the game is all we need plus two guys in the booth that love football and know what’s going on.

They're trying to turn it into some sitcom. What’s with the idiot on desperate whores doing in the booth? Get him the F out of there and train the cameras back on the field. They did the same crap with Mcnair last week.

If it’s not about football and it’s not happening on the field then don’t talk about it. Because I DON’T CARE ABOUT ANY OF THAT OTHER CRAP and NEITHER DOES FOOTBALL AMERICA. IT’S MNF, AND THAT’S ENOUGH FOR ME.

The whole package has been a$$ for a while now. It's football, and that keeps me watching. But unlike in the past, if the game doesn't interest me i don't watch. That's a big change for me, as I would watch any game that was on TV. Hell, I'll watch any game on a sunday. It's just these damned prime time broadcasts with their attemtps at across-the-board demographic grabbing bull$h1t that turns me off.

I think it was NBC I was watching....but some sideline reporter woman was on and she wasn't even hot. Not in the slightest. What is this world coming to? If I have to listen to a sideline reporter tell me about what Donovan McNabb had for breakfast that morning, she had better be frickin' hot. It's not rocket science.

It"s so obvious Tony Cornhole is just sitting there trying to think of something funny to say that it makes me uncomfortable. I've been waiting all week for this game...just shut-up and let me watch it. If you have something to say...please make it pertinent. :D

I'm surprised that Kornheiser's weakness is that he cannot create a goods joke without a solid setup, which is something he and Wilbon do for each other on PTI, which I find laugh out loud funny when those 2 do the show. Wilbon's perfect at giving him the meat pitch, which he routinely knocks out of the park. Until they figure out a solution (and it won't include Theisman) they're going to have trouble.

And bring back Boom and TJ for NFL Primetime. :bash:

Totally agree. Football Night in America seems so dull compared to NFL Primetime with Berman and Jackson. For some reason, Football Night in America reminds me of NBC's Olympics coverage. :D:D:clap:

But I mean is comedy what you are really looking for on MNF? Look at what happened with Dennis Miller....

Kornheiser is able to make smart sports statements that are funny, and hence entertaining (on PTI). That's what color guys do, which is what I'm supposing he was hired for. Unfortunately, his color comments aren't engaging at the moment.

And if you watched enough of the Miller-Fouts games, eventually Fouts became the funny guy, and Miller became the straight guy. But that didn't happen by design, it happened inadvertently.

Bring back Fouts, he was great.

they should kick joe out and put in wilbon.. let him and tony go back and forth all game and have tirico call the game.. it would probably be pretty entertaining.

Finally, someone mentions the beating that Jerry Rice is... With all of his uhhh's and inability to pronounce any word that contains "th" in it, I also find it maddening. And uhhh as long as ihhh Jerry Rice is wiff that show uhhh, I won't listen

As in missing the ball right?

Maybe that's why the greatest reciever of all time doesn't have any endorsements.

Actually, this is not true. While I don't like the interview either anyone around when MNF was a national event (1970s) will know that interviews have always been a part of MNF in the past.

This is what helped make the game so special, that they intertwined nationally known people with the game. It was NEVER just a football game, it was an event, a uniquely American event and now people are taking pot shots because they have too much superflous stuff, when all along the superflous was there.

I would suggest one issue with MNF now is that we have access to every game, a multitude of highlights, and games on Sunday night. By Monday Night you're kinda worn down a bit.

Back in the day, I got to watch two total games (one at 1 and one at 4) and 1 was usually one I didn't care about. Highlight shows were minimalistic back then and one of my favorite moments of MNF football back in the 1970s and 1980s was the half-time highlight show.

I don't think the games are necessarily any better either, although I have done no research and it was much easier to predict the good teams back in the 1970s (no free agency, limited roster turnoever). So the game has gone away a bit because I think our culture has selected against MNF, for some of the reasons I have said and for others I don't have a finger on.

Don't get me wrong, I love football and I am critical of azzclown announcers as anyone and YES I long for MY MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL where my dad and I would get our pizzas together and have 3 hours of football bliss, but times do change and I believe the people at ABC who gave up Monday Night football understood that the market has changed. MNF will continue to be a good draw, but anyone who honestly believes we'll EVER have the magic of the 1970s MNF back is sadly mistaken (this coming from someone who adores 1970s football)

this sums it up for me. it amazes me that networks can't figure out that all the rest of the crap is not necessary.

Aside from Tony seeming lost....and Joe generally getting on my nerves all the way around....lol.....THIS is the one thing that bothers me most. Tirico has forgotten that he is supposed to "call the game". He'll go whole chunks of time without mentioning what's happening on the field. There's very little in the way of replays going on....and when it does....they totally ignore that the producer is showing the play again. ANALYZE the darn thing......LOL.

If they'd stick to the game....they might even be fairly good. :D OK...maybe that was pushing it. :D

Based on the reality of history this statement could have been said in 1975, 1980, 1985....tell me when "the rest of the crap" was not part of MNF?

You're right, of course ... except the focus of what constitutes "nationally known people" has changed considerably. In the day, MNF (and especially Cosell) would look for cultural icons; I remember when John Lennon died, one of the frequently-shown clips was of Cosell's interview with Lennon during MNF.

Today, if Lennon were alive, the only way he would be interviewed is if he had a show to plug on the Disney network.

And that's a big difference. The superfluous stuff wasn't a blatant promotional opportunity for the network, but was people who may have something interesting to say -- that was part of what made MNF an "event." Talk shows have changed much the same way -- the focus is no longer on interesting guests or entertainment, but on booking people who have something to sell.

The commercialism is relentless -- from guests, the the screen crawlers (the scores are only there to get you to pay attention to the promos) to the promos between commercial breaks.

The question really isn't about football, or even demographics. It's more like the ads that are superimposed behind the batter during a baseball game -- if there's a spot to stick advertising or promotions, it'll get stuck there. And if there isn't a spot, they'll create one.

And that's what happens when TV pays billions of dollars for broadcast rights -- something Roone Arledge never had to worry about back in the day.
