No news, but I am a Washington owner and have gotten two trade proposals within the last two days...both of which I turned down

-D.Branch + J. Wiggins for Washington (I don't need Wiggins)

and I loved this one

-Kevan Barlow for Leon Washington (why doesn't he just try to get Wash for someone else and cover the Jets backfield?)

Martin has been practicing with the team and comes off of the PUP next week...

That is not official. They have not made any announcements on what they will do. I will say this though...if CuMart does return say goodbye to Barlow...Washington would still be the 3rd down, pass catching guy and CuMart would be the goalline and first and 2nd down guy.

I think CuMart hurts BOTH Barlow and Wash, but totally destroys Barlow's value, assuming he has any left.

Kevan Barlow-RB-Jets Oct. 11 - 10:46 am et

The Jets reportedly do not feel Kevan Barlow is the long-term answer at the running back position.

Rookie Leon Washington's stock continues to rise. The Jets reportedly feel Cedric Houston, currently out with a knee injury, is a tough runner but not a featured back. Barlow could be cut after this season.

The Jets are expected to run outside more in Week 6 to avoid Dolphins run-plugging interior linemen Dan Wilkinson and Keith Traylor.

Leon Washington is New York's best option to fill an outside-running role. He's a workable flex play if you're handicapped by bye weeks.

THE NEWS

Although nothing has been made official and many still believe Curtis Martin may never play again, the Newark Star-Ledger reported Wednesday that the veteran will attempt to return to practice next week, when he's eligible to come off the physically unable to perform list. "The Jets aren't sure if Curtis can do it but out of respect for him, they're going to give him every opportunity," a person with knowledge of Martin's rehab told the Star-Ledger. "They feel they owe it to Curtis. They want him to retire as a Jet and go into the Hall of Fame as a Jet."

Our View

Call us crazy, but that doesn't sound like a very optimistic outlook. Martin is still battling a "bone-on-bone" condition in his knee, which stems back from the knee surgery that ended his 2005 season early. Whatever the case, Martin will have 21 days to work himself into playing shape – assuming he's healthy, which is taking a huge leap – before the Jets have to either put him on the active roster or place him on season-ending injured reserve. We'll keep you updated on C-Mart's status, but we continue to urge caution. In other words, don't drop a player with potential to help you in the near term just to take a chance on a guy who faces long odds of returning to the playing field this year.

I read an earlier update on fanball that said that he was practicing. My bad for not knowing the in's and outs of the PUP rules. This is thier update as of today.
