Should Reggie Bush Get Points for Punt Return TD?

I need to hear from other Fantasy owners/commissioners whether, in your league, Reggie Bush would have gotten points for his punt return TD this past Sunday.

By default, our Sportsline league does not award points for this, and I'm not sure how to award points short of making a manual adjustment. And we've never given points for this before. But I've got an owner in my league (who happens to have Bush on his roster, and for whom the TD would make the difference between winning and losing) who is claiming that giving players credit for special teams TDs is "common."

Can any other owners let me know what your policy is?

Thanks.

It looks like the league rules do not allow for an individual player to get the return TD.

And for leagues with team defense/special teams, the usual rule is to give that TD to the special teams team and not the player.

if it isn't in your rules, no way you can award points for it.

we have Individual Punt Return as one of our scoring options...if that isn't spelled out, then no go.

Sort of sums the argument and the owner doesn't have a leg to stand on so his complaint is moot. Bet if, in the past, the opposite was true he never said a word.

I am in leagues that do it either way. However... I am a strong believer in that if you start someone and they score a TD they should get the points. Most don't go along with that unfortunately.

I wouldn't want to be in a league that does NOT give him those points. But I have to agree with the others that you need to spell it out in the rules, or at the very least get a 100% owner agreement to put it in your rules now (i.e. everybody assumed it was set up this way, but you all just learned incidentally that it is not).

No. Very clearly a ST TD. As a Reggie Bush owner in one league I knew this ahead of time. I lost in that league by 3 pts so that TD would have won for me but no chance. That was cleared up in my league years ago.

People drafted NO Def / ST specifically because Bush was returning kicks.

Neither of my 2 locals allow points for offensive starters in special teams (yards or td's) but I've been trying to get that rule changed for years but these morans won't budge.

We award Punt/Kickoff return TD's for the simple fact of the injury risk involved if he has a chance of ending his year then if he scores he should also get the Points. But this is spelled out in the rules.

Agreed that it must be spelled out in the league rules. SportsLine will not automatically give you the TD, you have to set it up that way. Seems as if my main league differs from the others in that we will give the TD to the individual and to the DEF/ST as well. In theory, if you have Bush in your starting lineup and the NO DEF/ST in the starting luneup, that TD counts twice. It's only happened once before -- Dante Hall.

In my local, we don't start a D/ST, but the player only gets the TD points, not the yards. In most leagues that start a D/ST, the points usually don't count. I'm against that rule. I think the player should get the points as well. If a passing TD can go to both the QB and the WR, why can't a return TD go to a RB and the D/ST? :D I know I'm in the minority, but just my two cents. (can't get the smily to work)

We have tit clearly stated in my League's rules: Kickoff and Punt Return pts are awarded to the ST, NOT to the player who returns said kick.

If you don't have it defined in your rules, then you have to defer to no pts for Bush since he is listed as an Offensive player on the roster, and started as a RB I assume. Not a Kickoff returner.

I play in 3 leagues that have a D/ST. In 2 of those the individual player and the D/ST get credit for a return TD.

Local league 1: D/ST gets TD, individual player does not

Local league 2: D/ST and individual player both get TD

Huddle 32 Homers: D/ST and individual player both get TD :D

Sounds like yours is just another example of making sure your league rules clearly address all scoring possibilities prior to the start of the season.

Hopefully you have your scoring method detailed in your league rules. If it isn't spelled out there, then no dice.

Oh and I think it's less common for the offensive player to be awarded points. Only one of my six leagues awards that.

In mine RB's get kickoff return TD's but not punts. Defensive players get punts return TD's. I may ask to change it next year. IDP league so there are no defensive team points.

Obviously depends on the rules. But if it is not stated, I think I've only played in one league that would count that as an individual TD anyways...and that was an ancient prehistoric TD only league. It looks like the norm is to only count it as a ST/D TD.

I don't like the idea of one TD (TD passes/receptions excluded) counting as 2 TDs in a FF league. Either get rid of ST scoring or award individual TD returns ot the player IMHO.

IN most leagues I've played in we award TD's to the individual that scored the TD AND to the ST/D. Only seems natural to me. NO different than a wr/qb scoring on a rushing TD or a qb/rb scoring on a receiving TD.

Why is it ok for a pass/reception TD and not any other way? I fail to see your logic here. :D

If I have Reggie and he scores a TD I should get credit for it. Doesn't matter how it happens! AND is my D/ST scores a TD I should get credit for it regardless of who scores it. :D
