Bronco Billy
With Jake not playing especially great this year (but he just wins, right Vick lovers?) and with Cutler the obvious heir apparent at QB for DEN, what team(s) might be interested in trading for Plummer, and what can DEN get for him (draft pick, disgruntled player from another team?). I can't see Plummer accepting being a 2nd stringer behind Cutler, as competitive as he is. With his mouth & attitude, I could definitely see Plummer turning into a cancer if he were to be demoted to 2nd string. Plummer's current annual contract numbers per the NFLPA: Salary History 2003 530000.00 2004 660000.00 2005 665000.00 2006 4300000.00 2007 5300000.00 2008 4800000.00 2009 5800000.00 so he has a back-loaded contract that may really complicate any negotiations. Are there any teams out there that might think enough of Plummer & be desperate enough at QB next year to bring Plummer on board, or will the Broncos face just cutting him? Hugh 0ne
I'll give you $500,000 not to send him to Minnesota.
Jolly Rodgers
Why trade for someone when you know he will just be cut?
Bronco Billy
Why trade for someone when you know he will just be cut? Because then it becomes a bidding contest between teams interested in Plummer, with no guarantee that an interested team will get him. Please note, I'm not saying there are a ton of teams that will be beating down Plummer's door. But the simple fact is that by trading for him, a team is guaranteed to have his services, which can't be said if a team waits for him to be cut. Bronco Billy
The media in Denver seem to hate Plummer. Why is that? The DEN media is the black cloud to every season's silver lining. To be honest, the DEN media is loaded with guys who don't really undestand football, and are paid a decent wage to run their mouths or type their columns to prove that week after week. Before last season, the football savvy media types were all predicting 8-8 seasons, give or take a game. Then the Broncos reel off a 13-3 year, make the AFC championship game, and all the media types do during the offseason is focus on the AFC championship blow out (though what they focus on is Plummer's play & not the fact that Foxworth at CB was giving up 15 yd cushions & then going into immediate backpedal, which allowed PIT to convert numerous 3rd & longs, which is what got DEN behind the eight ball in the first place) and how it is a harbinger for another mediocre season, and most predicted DEN being 9-7 this year, give or take a game. Now that the team is playing well again this year, they have to cover their stupidity by seeking out a scapegoat, and Plummer with his poor play so far is easily the biggest target in town. I honestly think half the guys figure that they need to throw the Broncos under the bus to either promote some controversy and enhance their product or to try to show how much smarter they are than everyone else (or both). But either way, they come out sounding a lot less educated about sports than even the average fan - which never ceases to amaze me that they can make a living staying employed doing just that. AtomicCEO
The media in Denver seem to hate Plummer. Why is that? Well... I don't really read Denver media, but I never wanted Denver to sign him in the first place, and I still don't think he's a great fit for our style of offense. Last year he minimized his mistakes, and it worked, but it's clear that this year he forgot what he did last year and he has resumed his old careless stoner style. I've always thought that with our great defense and running game, if we just had a competent and understated QB to run things, we'd be better off. all the media types do during the offseason is focus on the AFC championship blow out (though what they focus on is Plummer's play & not the fact that Foxworth at CB was giving up 15 yd cushions & then going into immediate backpedal, which allowed PIT to convert numerous 3rd & longs, which is what got DEN behind the eight ball in the first place) I remember after watching that AFC Championship game at Mile High without the benefit of Theisman or some other broadcaster idiot's opinion on the game... I was surprised that Plummer was catching so much heat here on the forums and in general. It was painfully obvious to me (and Bier can attest to this since he was the recipient of my beetching) that our problem was covering the pass on 3rd down when we knew for a fact that they would be throwing. Plummer was just trying to Favre his way to a victory after we were getting whooped. I can't blame him for forcing a few passes at that point. Foxworth makes some big interceptions when he's in (which is only on 3rd downs usually), but he also gives up a lot of big plays.

This is all too true in Denver... I'm a MI transplant and Detroit Lions fan living in Denver, so the Broncos have become my second favorite team by default - it's nice to be able to cheer on a football team in the city you live in that has a high probability of winning each and every week. But the Broncos media is the hardest, most fair weather fan I've ever seen or heard of for any team in the league. If the Broncos are 4-1 they talk about how the team could win the SuperBowl, but they next week they lose to go to 4-2, you'd think this is the worst team to ever don a helmet and take the field. And when the Broncos lose the first game of the year, you'd think the team will go 0-16 from all media accounts. Bronco Billy is right about the controversy every week in the media. These guys say the most idiotic and disheartening things if only just to whip their listeners/readers into a frenzy. I used to be a big time sports radio guy, but I just can't do it any more with the amount of negativity that comes through the airwaves or print. I don't think that's what being a real fan is about...

bigrocks
I know the local media has already annointed Cutler the starter in 07, but that's pure speculation. Plummer will be hard to move in the offseason. He won't garner more than a 3rd or 4th round draft pick IMHO - and I don't think Shanny is going to give him away when he doesn't know how Cutler will play when the games actually count. If Denver makes another deep run in the postseason with Plummer at QB, my guess is he will be the starter again in 07.
Bier Meister
tb seems like a great candidate for him.... i also believe that he is getting a bum rap here in denver. though this year it seems like he is underachieving with smith and walker as his primary targets. many more mental errors this year compared to last. slickvick
OK Plummer is not the best QB but for goodness sakes give the guy a break. This team has one loss and a wicked defense.Jake will not be this teams make or break this season, they will win with defense and the running game.He made one mistake on Monday night early in the game.As I recall he made the big throws when it mattered late in the fourth quarter.I am by no means a Plummer apologist,I had him on my fantasy team 2 years ago and will never again. This team is as solid as they come and will probably make it to the AFC championship game once again.
