Apparently there is a price for trying to tear off a Pro Bowl running back's head in a game.

I reported on this week's FSN's Pro Football Preview that Arizona Cardinals cornerback Antrel Rolle has been fined a whopping $12,500 by the NFL for his facemask of the Chiefs' Larry Johnson in Sunday's game.

Johnson injured his neck on the play and didn't practice until Thursday for Kansas City due to the injury; but he is expected to play against Pittsburgh this weekend.

On the play, Johnson was running free down the sideline when Rolle caught him, grabbed a hold of his facemask and dragged him down and out of bounds without letting go of the mask.

Should have been more :D

He has Already been fined once this year for a horse collar tackle on Shaun Alexander. If you watch the replay you'll see Rolle throw his arm down like he's trying to spike LJ's head. I think there was intent to harm, but that's my opinion.

you're being a homer here. He was stretched out, mid-air, as he was reaching around a blocker to attempt to save a TD. He did not even remotely APPEAR to MAYBE have slammed his head in any direction. He certainly made a bad tackle, but was OBVIOUSLY distraught after the play and concerned for LJ's well being.

Could he have been faking? Sure. But I know when you watch that play at full speed, it happened so fast, it's hard to even see LJ's head turn around.

I dont think it's impossible he may have grabbed at ANYTHING available to make a TD saving tackle without the 'where-with-all' to know what he was grabbing. It just happened so fast and his body flying in the opposite direction actually did the pulling of LJ's head around. Once he was past LJ's body (and still mid air) he let go.

I disagree with the amount of the fine, for the fact that intent to harm was not obvious. I feel it's the new commish flexing muscles. However, what's $12,500 to these players? Bus fare.

Hopefully the amount of this fine is due to the new commish raising the stakes for these players, and not because they felt it was a situation worthy of a higher than usual fine

I think he should've been fined, but simply because as a professional, paid athlete, you need to have complete control of just about every situation you're invovled in as a tackler. If you grab a face mask (so drastically), you should be fined so you work harder to not do it again. Like a speeding ticket.

Don't assume I'm speeding because I want to hit a kid in the crosswalk. Tell me (and train me) to stop speeding so I don't.
