Bill Swerski
Unless an injury happens Thomas Jones will be the man. With benson being sprinkled here and there. Agreed with this. Both the coaching staff and the team are in Jones' corner. Next year, however, I expect Jones to be cut and Benson to take over.

AtomicCEO
Not if the Bears go to and win the Superbowl this year with Thomas Jones as the starting RB. Why not? Lots of teams jettison stars after a Superbowl.
Bill Swerski
Not if the Bears go to and win the Superbowl this year with Thomas Jones as the starting RB. Not necessarily. The Pats had no problem dumping Antowain Smith to make room for fresher, more powerful legs after winning SB 38.
Furd
Jones had 22 carries for 109 yds (a little more than 4.9 yds per carry) Benson had 14 carries for 48 yards (a little less than 3.5 per carry) I don't know how you can call that game a "tide turner" for Benson. whitem0nkey
The one problem is the bears need to know what they really have in Benson, so they can make a good decision for next year.
whitem0nkey
I personaly feel that TJ is a good back but benson could be a special back.
Bill Swerski
Cuz I said so. I'd like Jones to stay as well. But given what they're paying Benson, Jones' injury history, the fact that Jones is in his prime and has nowhere to go but down in terms of production, and the fact that Jones has been vocally unhappy about his contract, I seriously doubt that he'll be in Chicago next season regardless of how the Bears do this year. It would take a major injury to Benson or for Benson to flat-out suck for Jones to be a Bear in '07.
DexterDew
the way i see the rest of the year playing out (barring injury), is that Benson will get a play or two in the first half to spell Jones, but once the game is out of reach, they will work Benson to see what they have. The Bears could also use Benson a little more once the Bears wrap up home field, etc., much like the Colts did last year with Edge (which didn't really help). So it could mean around FF playoffs that Benson will get the bulk of carries. Having typed all that, the job and touches are Jones's as long as he is healthy and holds onto the ball. And Jones will be a semi-hot FA for '07.
Brentastic
I personaly feel that TJ is a good back but benson could be a special back. What in the world have you seen from Benson to make you think he is special? Unless of course you mean "short yellow bus" special.

Plus I'm guessing that the Bears being up 125-0 might of had to do something w/ Benson getting 14 carries.

Well i hope our GM spent our 1st pick on a player that could be special not on an avg back. But benson has the size, speed, power. He dominated in the college level. And he needs a chance to prove him self at the pro-level. But with jones doing a real nice job we have to wait. The few times I seen him run I saw a few nice little runs. And he had a few bone head decisions but that comes with lack of experience. All im saying is we cant let him go with out knowing exactly what we got. Of course we haven't seen much in real game situations and what we have seen has come in garbage time.

Pope Flick
It's clear his demise that was being spoken about 2-3 weeks ago here was greatly exagerrated. Also, his work hasn't been all garbage time, as he received carries in the last two first halves the past two weeks. Also the ypc is low, but he got goal line carries inside the 5 last week and scored twice. It's hard to get a 4 yard rush from your opponents 3 yard line. It's clear they're working him in and he's progressing, which is good. It's better he has the 'nose for the endzone' and can punch it in on goal line D's. That's been the best revelation thus far. And. Let's. Stop. The. Super. Bowl. Talk. In. Week. 6. Thank you.
bushwacked
And. Let's. Stop. The. Super. Bowl. Talk. In. Week. 6. Thank you. Superbowl talk would be an improvement. I'm more taken aback bout the "better than the 85 bears" and "16-0" talk?
Randall
Plus I'm guessing that the Bears being up 125-0 might of had to do something w/ Benson getting 14 carries. Exactly. I would think they would tade rather than cut him. If they thought Benson would be anywhere near ready they would trade Jones now.
whitem0nkey
Superbowl talk would be an improvement. I'm more taken aback bout the "better than the 85 bears" and "16-0" talk? if this is a reference to my post, i was just comparing the first 5 weeks. I'm not saying that the 06 bears are better then the 85 team, I would have to see the whole season before i can make an opinion about that. but just for the first 5 weeks they looked more dominate than the 85 team. this does not mean that they win it all or go undefeated. it's a long season and anything can happen, thats why we watch. Sounds like you are trying to ride the same train i rode last year waiting for Benson's "Break out game" that the everyone kept saying was coming. All this guy did for me was take up a roster spot. Thomas Jones is and will be the man in Chicago this year. I purposely stayed away from both of these guys just in case Benson does take over but i still think Jones will hold on. He just had his breakout game last week... so I traded him immediately for LJ Smith. That will be his best game of the year.
rocknrobn26
Unless an injury happens Thomas Jones will be the man. With benson being sprinkled here and there. The problem is they will be splitting runs, bad news for TJ owners, good news for CB owners! If you somehow own both , you need to play them both to get a decent 1 RB return on investment. Not a good scenario, unless those are your best RB's. I have TJ in one league and I predict, he's seen his best weeks! RBBC and TJ is the better pass blocker. When CB is in you can almost guarantee a run. CB has very poor pass blocking skills! Jones had 22 carries for 109 yds (a little more than 4.9 yds per carry) Benson had 14 carries for 48 yards (a little less than 3.5 per carry) I don't know how you can call that game a "tide turner" for Benson. Add the 2 TD's! That makes the diff for FF owners! They should have/would have (last year) been TJ's!
