HowboutthemCowboys
Green's return to the active roster comes as somewhat of a surprise, considering head coach Bill Parcells only recently moved him from wide receiver to running back. The Cowboys' fourth-round pick was released at final cuts and signed to the practice squad after a sub-par training camp and preseason. Drafted as a potential difference-maker in the return game, Green didn't stand out on kick or punt returns in preseason and lacked the size (5-9, 190) and experience to compete at wide receiver. But Parcells has been impressed with Green's perseverance over the last six weeks, saying he looked more active and much quicker in practice. He also wanted Green to lose weight, and the former LSU standout said he has dropped 13 pounds since mini-camp. "I think we definitely have him at the right position," Parcells said. "I'm starting to see a lot of good things in practice from him. He looks more like the player that we drafted. "I think he was a little immature when he first got here and maybe under a little delusion about what his status was. And that happens to some of these kids, but to his credit he's kind of snapped out of it." There is a chance Green could be active for Sunday's game against the Texans as a return specialist, especially since the Cowboys will not be carrying two kickers to the game and it would seem unlikely Curtis would dress after just being signed to the active roster. Even Green acknowledged he might be used in the kicking game Sunday. Green, 22, said he'd never been cut from a football team in his entire life except when his parents took him off the middle school team because of his grades. "It was hard then," he said. "If you really want something you have to go out and get it. "It's all a process. I'm picking up the process very well now and it caught (Parcells') eye and I'm glad it did." Parcells said he views Green as a "specialty player" in the mold of David Meggett, who contributed as a return specialist/running back when Parcells coached the Giants. Green hasn't played running back since high school but said it's "more of my natural position."
neilfish2
I ref'ed his football games back when he was 9 yrs old through the age of 13. He was amazing then. I think LSU should have listed him as a running back, it is his natural position. There have been alot of small RB in the NFL that have done good. Give him time I think ya'll have someone special.. I do not like the Cowboys, but I'm a big fan of S. Green so I'll be watching... Edited October 14, 2006 by neilfish2

The way the Cowboys have been using Julius Jones and Marion Barber III, I can't see Green as anything more than doing kick returns. I am sure he would've been a great WR.
