I'm surprised the Denver fans aren't chanting Cut-ler, Cut-ler, Cut-ler...

I'm actually starting to think it, and I would have called anyone saying this 2 weeks ago a moran.

DEN's O needs some shaking up - badly, or they're going to be also-rans with one of the 3/4 best Ds in the NFL.

I just dont get this. Why would anyone want Cutler to take over. You can pretty much write off your season with a rookie QB. DEN offense is not good enough to carry a rookie (ala Big Ben) to the playoffs.

When the season is actually done, you start your rookie QB. You don't pull a viable starter just because.

1) Because I am completely confident that Culter can average better than 155 payd/gm, 0.6 paTD/gm, & less than 1.0 INT/gm,

2) Because Cutler with his pocket passing ability fits T Bell's running style better (Cutler can still scramble & run, BTW - he was an option QB his 1st 2 years at Vandy) since Shahanan seems relentlessly sold on T Bell, and,

3) Shanahan can use more of the playbook with Cutler (which he has admitted in interviews).

Normally I'd hate to see a rookie QB thrust into this situation also, but the simple logic is that DEN is headed for an early playoff exit with the offense it is putting on the field right now. I'd rather take a chance with a rookie QB and hope that the magic strikes twice in 3 years with rookie QBs than to be put through the excrutiatingly poor offensive performance being put forth by the DEN O so far. If nothing else, Shanahan owes it to his D players to try to get some kind of offense on the field regardless of whose feathers it ruffles. A shakeup is starting to become the only reasonable solution. The season is 1/3rd over already.

if I was a Broncos fan...I wouldn't want Cutler in.....

I'd rather Cutler be the backup for maybe even another year like Rivers did so he knows the offense like the back of his hand and would only need to build a rapport with his teammates....

also learning how to read defenses and all of that is another factor as well....

Mcnabb, Palmer, Rivers etc. etc. have done this and of course a QB can come in immediately, but I'd rather a rookie QB sit and learn....

QB is pretty much the hardest position to learn....plus you have to have command of the huddle and earn their respect as well....he can actually learn that from Jake......while already having much more talent than him..

If you think Cutler can do better than an avg of 1 INT per game w/o being able to read defenses, and not konw the offense, you're completely out of your mind. COMPLETELY!

Now the other points, you're probably 100% right on. In fact, you've ALMOST swayed my thoughts on wheter DEN fans should call for Cutler, however my one hang up, and it's a big one, is he won't be able to read defenses, he won't be a leader, he won't be able to win games, he'll have minimum of 2 INTs per game based on that alone. minimum.

The offense is not the PIT offense that went to the playoffs and the superbowl 2 years in a row. it just can't support a rookie QB. The rookie QB needs to support the offense.

What is your evidence that he can't read Ds and that he doesn't know the offense? The only evidence we have is his preseason performance, and he put forth a pretty strong argument with that.

By most accounts, Cutler is very smart and has picked up a significant portion of the playbook, and also by those same accounts can run more of it than Plummer can. Shanahan has cut back on the offensive diversity significantly since the start of the year - most likely in an effort to give Plummer a better shot at being successful. As far as reading Ds, I would put forth the argument that he did pretty well against the complicated SEC Ds last year with relatively much less talent around him than he has this year, and I could find it reasonable to think that he can read Ds right now better than Plummer can, despite Plummer's years in the league.

Plummer's completion percentage is barely over 50% (down from an average of 60% the past 3 years in DEN, and 5% worse than his worst year previously in DEN); his ypa is down a full 1.5 ypa over his average the past 3 years in DEN, and his TD/INT ratio is 0.60, which is unacceptable for any pro QB.

I don't know what's going on with him, other than he is having a much worse year than anything he has done previously here. He has the wheel of a potential championship team in his hands - and they have already beaten two contenders for that championship this year, NE & BAL, yet all he has done is spin the wheels while the car (that has run in previous years like a finely tuned machine) barely moves forward. Maybe he can't take the pressure of being a lame duck QB. Maybe he is in the stage of his career where his skills & judgment are eroding quickly. Maybe the lack of an inside running game has exposed him completely. Maybe its a combination of these factors.

All I know is that this is a year ripe for the taking in the AFC. NE is getting old quickly & doesn't have the weapons on O it needs. IND doesn't have a legit running game or a run D, either legit or illegit. PIT is in a hole & Big Ben looks very shaky despite his performance yesterday. BAL lost its running game completely. SD is being run by a very young QB and has some personnel issues on D. CIN's player issues has caught up with them.

This ought to be a year where DEN under Plummer could take charge of the AFC, yet its O - an O that is normally one of the best in the NFL year after year - has opened huge questions about DEN itself. Opportunity only knocks every so often, and with this D all DEN needs is a mediocre O, but it doesn't even have that. 24th in the NFL in O ypg & #30 in the NFL in O ppg, after only finishing out of the top 10 in the NFL once in O ppg & twice out of the top 10 in the NFL in O ypg in Shanahan's previous 11 years, and not out of the top 10 in either since Plummer has been here? Opportunity is knocking, Mike Shanahan....

What have the Broncos got to lose by starting Cutler. Jake the Fake has had what...4-5 years to learn this offense? And Shanny is still dumbing it down for him. There will be no Super Bowls as long as Jake is the QB so whats the difference between going 1 and out or no playoffs at all? Put in Cutler and let him take his lumps the second half of the season. Next year he'll be that much better for it.

You really need to watch a few of the games before spewing your lack of knowledge. :D

I'm not sure what the answer is at this point, but I'm real close to saying, throw Cutler in and lets see. He was very impressive in preseason. As was Mike Bell; another transition that needs to happen yesterday.

I am biased, I'll admit. However, between flipping off all the fans, proving he has the madcow with his road rage, and all the turovers up until now....as blatant as some of them have been....I am starting to question if some of them aren't actually deliberate. It has become a little long in the tooth to chaulk it up to starting out slow.

Put Plummer and Tatum on the bench for a week or two, and if they don't get the message, toss Plummer and inform Tatum he's next if he doesn't learn how to throw off the trash and increase his ypc. :D

13 for 26 for 138 yards, 0 TD and 3 INTs

13 of 24 for 106 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT

11 of 18 for 102 yards, 0TD and 0 INT

Yeah... Cutler would really have his work cut out for him to try to match those stellar veteran QB numbers of Plummer. :D

Those numbers are what I like to call "Detmer-esque", and I think you could slap a wrist cheat sheet on many current college QBs and match that kind of output.
