MothAudio
Watching the NFL network and that's what their yaking about. Couple of great offensive weapons and even better DEF than last year, and now the QB has proven very stable so far. The real deal?
Flip_Side
Best team in the AFC but they lost to the Ravens. NFL Network is right on with that assumption, NOT. The Colts are still the team to beat in the AFC even with their defense not playing up to their potential. Signing Mcfarland was big imo, that will help their cause. I still think the Patriots are a great team in the AFC also.
MothAudio
The Colts can't stop anyone. They almost got beat by... the Titans! The offense can't carry'em every game. SD is a much more balanced team.

Chargerz
The improved play by the Bolts defensive backfield and by Rivers needs to continue, but if it does, the Chargers could certainly be the AFC's representative in the Super Bowl. However, let's take a look at their "impressive" win list: Oakland Tennessee Pittsburg San Fransisco There is a total comined 5 wins for the teams that San Diego has beat. And everybody says that the Bears have the easiest schedule in the NFL.

No idiocy here. However, I would have no problem "backing" logic. Topic title reads: "Are the Chargers the best team in the AFC". According to league standings, the Chargers aren't even the best team in the AFC West let alone the entire division.
crispirons
i think the teams in the afc are bunched together more this yr than ever. you still have to consider the undefeated colts(no matter how they win or who they barely beat), the bengals (the D is iffy with all problems over there though), the broncos (look as good as anyone defensively and i would expect the O to come around...maybe not), the patriots (they don't look as good as teams past) the ravens (this team could be hurting now with boller) the steelers (still defending superbowl champs but need to revitalize the passing game), the jaguars (could be a surprise team if the offense sparks a little.) no clear cut number 1 if you are asking me. edit: i knew i was missing a team....the jags. Menudo
I picked the Chargers to win the West in the pre-season, and right now, I do consider them the best in the AFC, slightly ahead of Indy.
Bengal Mania
I don't see enough of them to make a statement about best... ...clearly among the best Shawn Merriman is becoming one of my favorite players (other than when they play the Bengals) He is a freakin' beast
rebdog
Yes. I'd rate the Colts up there. But they won't be able to run on us and we'll be able to run all over them. As for the loss to the Ravens....Marty knows what he has at QB now. I'm praying he doesn't pull back on the reins in the passing game again. That's the only question mark....IMO.
McBoog
Other than Marty climbing into a hole and destroying the lead (instead of protecting it), the Chargers DOMINATED the Ravens. It was Marty’s coaching that killed that game, and if there is any reason in particular why the Chargers are not the best team in the AFC it would be because of questions regarding Marty’s philosophy. The Chargers, IMO, are the most balanced team in the AFC and probably the NFL right now. Rating the dysfunctional Broncos ahead of the Bolts right now is stupid. Yeah, I get the division thingy, but look at the numbers. They have the same record, and a MUCH MORE productive offense. Saying, “If the palyoffs were today…” is irrelevant to the discussion. The difference is the conference that the teams lost to, with the rest of the season to play. The Broncos lost a game they should have lost, and the Bolts lost a game they won everywhere but on the scoreboard. Both teams have great Ds right now. But what team in the AFC is completely dismantling the teams they are playing? The Colts squeaked by the Titans (a team many were saying is the worst in the league), late, but the Bolts tore them apart. Look at the common opponents. San Diego, except for the away game in Baltimore they should have won, has destroyed, completely, the other four teams they have been scheduled to play. It has not been “just barely” winning, or close games, it has been NO COMPTETITION. Even Pitt for the first half and SF who made it interesting for the first 1 ½ quarters using a gimmick style offense, just could not keep up with the SD O and the SD D got serious and chalked up back-to-back second half shutouts, were ultimately not even competitive. I am not going to tell you that they are the best in the AFC right now, still too early. I will say top three and the most balanced of any team in the NFL. I also think that the bench depth of the Bolts is top two or three in the NFL as well.
cdrudge
The Colts can't stop anyone. They almost got beat by... the Titans! The offense can't carry'em every game. SD is a much more balanced team.It comes down to what do you call "best". Is a well balanced team that has a loss or two better or worse then a lopsided team where the offense or defense excels enough that they can carry the rest of the team. To me, the best team is the team that has the best record, then you can start looking at being balanced, strength of schedule, etc. You may have the most balanced offense in the league, but that means nothing if they can't get you wins. So right now the best teams are the Bears and Colts. I'd probably give the edge to the Bears because of their defense and how well their offense HAD been playing, but the monumental collapse of Rex Grossman on Monday gives me pause. The Colts have been playing off the last couple of weeks and their defense couldn't stop a middle school running back, but they had similar issues last year early on as well.
