Coffeeman
I guess the real question is: who do I want to see lose more? We have to play both in November, so it really doesn't matter for S.O.S. stuff, does it? (I don't truly understand the mysterious machinations of the @#$ BCS, so I could be wrong.) Hmmm, tough one for me, but if they could end up in a 0-0 tie with lots of injuries and misery all around, that would be best... I'd like to say I'll root for UCLA to carry the Pac-10 banner, but you know me - I don't care that much. OK, I'll take ND, since I just have a pinch more respect for them and the team history, I guess. Even tho the damned long grass cost DReed his season last year, I just can't bring myself to root for the Bruins! Ever.... Do you have any similar rival dilemmas this week, or any week upcoming? Pope Flick
The USC v UCLA/ND thing reminds me a lot of the UT v OU/eATMe. Both UCLA and eATMe consider the regional teams to be the #1 rivalry while USC and UT look at those schools as a kind of younger brother that doesn't really deserve the full respect or joy in beating ND or OU gives them. Rockerbraves
I do a little business with the Bruins so my loyalty is with UCLA.
GWPFFL BrianW
you want ND to win since a win over them with only 1 loss would help USC more than a win over them with 2 losses
Possum Jenkins
you want ND to win since a win over them with only 1 loss would help USC more than a win over them with 2 losses +1 - except ND is going to win that game in November

Dragon
+1 - except ND is going to win that game in November Well, we'll see if the bye week helps the offensive chemistry / consistency. fortunately, ND has a stretch of games in which they can "get their rythm". If this happens, I see ND winning a close game. If not, USC smokes ND by 17+.
Timmypg
I'm not sure about the ND-USC game (I hope ND wins) but I think ND will crush UCLA.
Possum Jenkins
thems fightin words.... exactly! that's why you want ND to win... Honestly, who gives a crap outside of the PAC 10 who wins USC/UCLA? You've got a whole nation of people interested in SC/ND - I like it when all the marbles are on the line, don't you? Best game of the year last year, hands down, was the SC/ND game. Here's to another one just like it (except for the outcome, of course...) theprofessor
The fact is, that SC is not that good this year. With all the great players they lost last year SC can be beat and will be beat twice before their bowl game. And yes, I am a big Pac-10 fan. With all the great players they lost last year SC can be beat and will be beat twice before their bowl game. And yes, I am a big Pac-10 fan. As a realist I should agree with you, but Saturday gave me some hope too. Cal, UCLA and ND all looked beatable while the Ducks just looked bad, and they all have to come here. (Rose Bowl v. Bruins is like a '1/2 home game' for us.) Meanwhile Nebraska almost beat TX and Arkansas looks good, so we should be 8-0 and ranked #2 in BCS when the big games start. The Huskie team Cal struggled with at home was not really that close to us, and they had Stanback when they played here. As we get healthier at WR, FB and DE spots and better in Nov. (like all Coach Carroll teams do,) there is still a chance we could run the table and meet a OSU or Michigan in the desert for all the marbles. Everyone seems disappointed in the offense, but I need to see more pressure from our D-line on opposing QBs (and get more TOs,) before I can feel truly confident. If that begins to happen more over the next few weeks, and we can blowout the Beavers and Stanford, look out. Cautious optimism has been my mantra & has served me well over the last 5 years, so here we go....

Texas missed two field goals and an extra point. Nebraska also benifited from being bailed out with a unsportmanlike conduct penatly that should have been offset by an illegal block, that the refs missed, that instigated the unsportsmanlike conduct. The game wasn't really all that close, except Nebraska got some breaks.

Yes, but the difference is that Texas still beat Nebraska, even with all those mistakes. It is much more comparable to the USC / Notre Damnit game last year. After watching the ND - UCLA game, I think USC runs the table. Admittedly, I don't know enough about Cal to comment on that matchup. Until ND figures out how to consistently get the ball to Jeff Smardjzia with a smattering of John Carlson, instead of spreading the wealth, they will struggle offensively. Timmypg
I don't understand why they only throw the deep ball to McKnight who is fast but small. Last year they made a living going deep to Stovall & Smardjzia who would just out jump the DB's and catch the ball. Smardjzia is a first round NFL draft pick that ND isn't going to nearly enough. I will say that I love Carlson. I think he may be better then Fasano. Luckily ND's schedule is easy from now until USC. If things go right the OSU-Michigan & USC-ND games can be semifinal games. I know a ton needs to happen for that but it can.
